What is next for the 'Heroes of the Hall'? (Drizzt/Salvatore)

I have been a R.A. Salvatore fan for awhile---but am a bit concerned about how the storyline will continue after the ending of Ghost King. I did not like how 4e 'restarted' the Forgotten Realms setting. Do folks think that he will fast forward his characters 100 years to the new 4e setting? If so---what will happen to the shorter lived characters? (ie--everyone except Drizzt).

Or will he have them suffer through the wacky transitional period between the ending of the 3.5 campaign and the beginning of 4e?

Thoughts?

Ah So...um..how can you ask what's next?

Cattie-Brie and Regis are in a unique type of heavenesque demi-plane between the planes, the only place their souls can be sane...
Wulfgar was Human, I don't remember any reference to his fate but I doubt he'd be alive, maybe he has a grandson?
If our favorite Clan Battlehammer dwarf is still alive he's almost certainly in Mithril Hall.

I think that Ghost King was the Curtain Call for the Champions of the Hall. We might see more Drizzt later but who knows in what capacity.

That is kind of my point. He left a lot of forced loose ends that could take him either way. Demi plane could pop them out in 100 years or the following week. The whole troop could reunite somehow up North with Wulfgar (my favorite), or (in 100 years fast-forward) Son-son-son of Wulfgar could come into it. etc. Basically he left a LOT of loose threads that he could use to go any particular way.

I'm not sure you quite understood what the author was conveying. First he pretty clearly laid out that their minds were irreparably destroyed and could never be whole by any kind of magic what so ever. Then he interred them into their own personal heaven, the greatest gift any being could ever experience.

It was a good bye. It was a curtain call. To return these charcters to life would make the story told here worthless. WOTC may be like that but I don't think RA Salvatore is.

Well---he did bring back Wulfgar (and I think I read somewhere that he meant for his death to be permanent---but reconsidered when the fans went nuts). so I think if he really wanted to---he could stretch it and bring them back.

And that is kind of my point in general---he has spent, what 20+ years developing these characters? I think a lot of fans will be very upset if he drops everyone save Drizzt and maybe Bruenor (though he is pretty old). I really doubt he is going to do a full restart in the 4e campaign with Drizzt and Guenhwyvar as the only carry overs. He risks loosing too many fans. On the other hand--I think a novel set in the post 3.5/pre4e time span would be pretty lousy too. I am not very interested in reading about a world where everyone is just trying to dodge spellplague stuff and trying to find old relics that still have some magic in them.

But then I am not a big fan of 4e in general---Forgotten Realms 4e in particular.

Here is my lame-ass prediction for the next storyline:
Drizzt goes on a quest to find Regis and Catie Brie. He communes with Mielikki (can't remember if Mielikke makes it to 4e), and his goddess grants him passage to the demi-plane where Regis and Catie now reside. He journeys there and convinces them to return. They agree and are able to return to FR after Wulfar and Bruenor plead with their gods to ressurect their friends. The gods grand their wishes---but demand a part of their life essence in return (which they needed anyway because there weren't any bodies around for an easy ressurection). The Heroes of the Hall return to Kelvin's Cairn and...
Eh...
Sound lame, but who knows?

IIRC, it wasn't the fans, but TSR who insisted that Wulfgar be brought back - and if Salvatore didn't write it, they'd find an author who would. Again IIRC, at the time relations between Salvatore and TSR were acrimonious (the Shores of Dusk debacle, when TSR set up Mark Anthony to take over the Drizzt saga because Salvatore and TSR couldn't come to an agreement).

I think you're confusing your opinon for popular consensus. Speaking as someone who's read the Drizzt saga from Homeland to The Ghost King, I for one am looking forward to a restart, with entirely new companions for Drizzt. IMO Drizzt is the only "vital" character - certainly he's the most famous/infamous on many discussion forums! But that's just me.

Interesting. I'd never heard that before. I remember when it happened I was excited to see him come back, but then I found the books post Legacy fairly lackluster. I stopped at the Silent Blade (or whatever it was called). At this point I just try to convince myself that the Drizzt books ended with The Legacy.
