Special Conversion Thread: Unicorns

Shade, did you miss my post above? We may have cross-posted.

I think I'm getting more fond of Empower SLA (chill metal), actually, but I could go with WF or Power Attack instead.

Oops, sure did!

I could go for either of those.

For magic circle, I don't see cricorns being any less exemplary (is that a word?) than the standard unicorn, so we can add it, unless it tips the scales too much with their other abilities.

Speaking of which, I do like the idea of adding Powerful Charge to the more aggressive members of the "species", like this one.

So...

Powerful Charge (Ex): When a criocorn charges, its gore attack deals 2d8+13 points of damage.

I'm assuming the enhancement bonus doesn't double...or does it?

I don't think the ability always strictly doubles. The text from the "types, subtypes, and special abilities" section is

SRD said:
Powerful Charge (Ex): When a creature with this special attack makes a charge, its attack deals extra damage in addition to the normal benefits and hazards of a charge. The amount of damage from the attack is given in the creature’s description.

So I think we can just set it as we like.

Skills: 8

Listen +2, Spot +2, Survival +4? (Note they'll get a +4 racial bonus for tracking by scent as well)

Multiattack sounds good, as does Track as a bonus feat. For the remaining feat, Skill Focus (Survival)? Weapon Focus (hoof)? Power Attack?

Sorry for the delay.

Where's this racial bonus from? Most creatures with scent don't have it, just wolves and the like.

If it's like a regular Unicorn it'll get a +3 circumstance bonus to all Survival checks in its own terrain so I wouldn't give it a racial Track-by-scent as well.

My first idea for the other feat was SF (Survival) simply because it was an SRD Unicorn feat.

That and its impressive Wisdom means it doesn't really need any points in Survival, so I'd divide its skill ranks between Hide, Listen and Spot.

Something like:

Feats: Multiattack, Skill Focus (Survival), Track (B)

Skills: Hide 2, Jump 0, Listen 3, Move Silently 0, Spot 0, Survival 0

Skills: Hide +1* (+5 in cold terrain, +9 immobile in cold terrain), Jump +17, Listen +8, Move Silently +7, Spot +8, Survival +8 (+11 in cold terrain)

Updated.

Let's wait for Cleon to weigh in on Empower SLA (chill metal) vs. Power Attack.

I would prefer Power Attack of those two options.

That means we'd have to drop my earlier proposal of SF (Survival), but we can easily work around that by slapping on a racial bonus to Survival.

I thought there were more, but apparently it's only ants and canines. Odd.

Fair enough.

I don't mind powerful charge but doesn't it normally have a doubled Strength bonus, i.e. 2d8+10?

The additional +3 is from the enhancement bonus of the horn.
