Daring the Gods

I am completey shocked by this new version of the games change from 2nd edition.
There you only had one god and you had to be the same alignment.
That is solid and makes sense.

I have only had a Rogue in 4e and when I went M/C avenger I was restricting any additional divine feats or powers to that of my original god Kord.

Now the Cleric who had obviously read all the divine, diety and god stuff said you werent restricted to one god.

I could not believe it.

And I see the poor Paladin is once again the most gimped and restricted class, oh well I guess that hasnt changed over time.

At least this multiple god thing is not as ridiculous as the Magic Weapons that you throw and they come back to you.

Making us all look like a cross between Zena and Wonderwoman, now that is ridiculous.

I mean, you throw your magic dagger in a burst attack, it imbends itself in say 3/4 enemies backs, digs itself on each occassion, then carries flying around the 25 x 25 foot area till it has backstabbed everyone, then returns to your hand, thats just plain silly.

But its the rules I guess.

That was already less strict in 3.x.

And you wanted to add Moradin b/c that's the reason this whole thread exists. Or did I misread your first post?

Clerics are the lucky ones I guess.

At least something connected to my statement. Even so it's just repeated.

That's by far more off-topic than what I'm asking and you have probably a house rule that makes it easier/better to imagine and equally balanced. But I don't want to discuss this issue at all.

The question is/was why is the paladin stuck with a single god (including matching alignments) while all other divine classes are not?
-- The answer it's been like this for ages isn't really an arguement.

Well technically it is a valid arguement (status quo), it just isn't a very good one as the system seems to have moved on.

If you read that further down it says that mutiple gods add flavour and greater options for the character, they are clearly saying you can use powers from different dieties.
If they didnt think that, they would have surely have made that very clear, but they havent have they ?

It would certainly seem so, according to that block of text - but then when you get to the Character Builder, it won't allow multiple Gods and their benefits, withou it being houseruled. Why didn't they add that for the Avenger if it was what they wanted? (not arguing with you here, its stated clearly in Divine Power, but just playing Devils Advocate)... :)

Character Builder is not a rules reference. It doesn't matter what the CB does, if the rules text is clear (as it is in this case). They probably just didn't bother implementing it, because it would add more complexity that most users would never use.

I feel Divine casters should at least be required to take their religion seriously. I imagine if Moses suddenly became a Buddhist just because Buddha offered him cooler powers would NOT look particularly good to anyone!

Note I didn't say switching deities is not okay. Doing so frivolously or without consequence is what I consider to be wrong. If you examine your reasons for doing the switch, and find that the reasons are about the same as why a villain might accept a deal to worship a demon or devil, this should at least make you pause and think!

This is why I don't think powers should be deity-limited in the first place.

Players should be able to pick the feats/PPs they want and choose their deity based on fluff alone.
