Avoid "You Must Spread XP Around" Messages

If you get one of these messages, try this:

Go into a forum you rarely/never visit. Find some posts by kobolds and give them XP with a "Welcome to ENWorld" message.

In this way, we can all contribute to weem's next level a little more quickly.

Particularly if people pick good posts to recognize, I think this strategy wins on several levels. It recognizes new members, it makes people feel welcome, it encourages good posting, it gets older members acquainted with unfamiliar forums and posters, and it cycles your list faster.

Don't do it in PbP in-character threads, though. That's a little disruptive.

I have to disagree. I might be misreading the intentions behind the post, and if that is the case, I apologize. Perhaps the effect is well-meaning, but to me this seems like a deliberate attempt to game the XP system. The title is "(How Do I) Avoid 'You Must Spread XP Around' Message" and not "(How Do I) Welcome New Members Into the Community". The intentions are clearly not well-meaning, even if the effect is to make people feel more welcome.

Well, part of the reason why people are trying to get around the XP system's limitations is that they have found that they really want to reward somebody for a good idea...and they can't.

Then a few weeks later, they want to reward that person for something else...and they can't.

Months pass, they reward valuable or witty posts as they see fit, then find something else by that first person...and STILL can't reward them.

I've been on both sides of that...and God only knows how many points weem would be at if those who wanted to were always able to reward his efforts.

You can also see who the newest member is right on the main Forum page. Click on their name and you will be able to see what posts, if any, they have made and get right there to offer welcome too.

No. You're wrong. Please don't make claims to know my intentions.

The effect is the same regardless of what the title of the thread is. I chose the title because it is an occurrence to which many of us can relate; then I posted a way to welcome newer members. The order was expressly designed to get people to click on this thread first. After that, I suggested a good deed they could do to accomplish both goals.
