D&D 4E No more reprints of the 4E core books?

If it's true, I'll be disappointed. I was flat-out told by Bill Slaviscek and Greg Leeds that there wouldn't be a 4.5. It's going to be difficult to support that claim if they're no longer printing the core rules.

What if it's the same rules in a different book? I mean, that's my understanding of the Rules Compendium.

When WotC has said repeatedly in the past that one of the many serious failings of TSR was keeping open multiple product-lines for D&D (Advanced, Basic), it does seem a bit questionable for any of us to assume that they are now going to do just that. It's a possibility, I suppose, but I would be surprised.

I guess it'd be a new edition in the sense that Call of Cthulhu has had more than one edition. But really, that's not what people mean when they're talking about 4.5.

3.0 ---- > 3.5 you bought new books for updated rules. 3.0 not longer reprinted.

Do you see analogies? I do.

No, I don't. 3.5 removed skills, changed spell lists, and drastically modified class features. Essentials adds new options. Here's the important thing, which I will bold out of mild frustration.

You don't need to change anything about your current character if you're playing in a game run by a GM who started with Essentials.

It's gonna be funny as hell when the PHB 1 material doesn't vanish from the Character Builder or the Compendium. (And if it does, I will absolutely 100% eat crow.)

Going by just the first three corebooks...doesn't Essentials change skills (stealth), change skill DC's, change the math behind monsters, change powers and drastically modify classes as seen in the previews... oh yeah and also get rid of warlords?

I could technically play a 3e class in 3.5, use 3e spells in 3.5 and so on... doesn't mean it was a good idea to do so or that 3.5 wasn't a "revised edition".

Just playing a little devil's advocate here.

You don't have to, because you already paid for updates through the insider erratas. This time, compared to 3.0/3.5, simply, has been step-by-step.

I've received a tip that all future 4e releases will be in 3-D and delivered free of charge to my front door. And I have all the same proof those guys do.

Just more Essentials wharrggllbarrglle.

This is, indeed, just true.

It won't be funny when someone with a PHB1 Warlord/ PHB1 Fighter build/PHB1 Cleric/etc. character wants to get into a new game with a DM that doesn't have DDI or the Compendium.
