Adventure: Into the Wild

Rocco looks disinterested until Nementah raises the question of butchery.
He then animates and becomes agitated
"You don't know what butchery is, girl! No one raises again after meeting Rocco! No revenants, vampires or other servants of Lauto will get up unless He wants to rebuild the body from scratch.

If I could I'd burn every last one of them to ashes! Since I cannot, I can take care not to reinforce their ranks! It's not senseless."

He quietes down a bit and even becomes subdued
"It's sad, that there is a need for such. Sad."

Renquist walks quietly, listening to the commentary from the strange fey creature and the dwarf... until Lauto's name is brought up.

"Careful there dwarf. You risk more than you know throwing the name of the Lord of Death around like that. Lauto does not endorse the undead. It is usually some foolish mortal raising corpses for his doing. And before you go on some tirade of not fearing death, think of those who have gone to meet Lauto before ye. Your clan members for example."

Rocco looks sadly, but with smoldering anger at the paladin
"My clan is not with Lauto or his Queen. They have fallen to vampire depredations. Whole clan wiped out. Only I remain.

My ancestors turn in their mountain tombs and my clansmates await my axe.

And don't preach, you're both undead and his servant. How does he not endorse undead? No revenant comes back without his approval."

Renquist seems pensive. No emotions are readily apparent on his face.

"I did not know of your clan's catastrophe. I apologize.

To be honest, I find myself frustrated by my... condition.

I have not met anyone else like me.

I don't know what motivates other... individuals. I do know that mortals have played with death seeking immortality since the age of time. And I am sure they didn't ask Lauto's permission.

Further, I do not know why I am here, or what task needs be accomplished before I rest. It may be, dwarf, that my purpose is to help you right the wrong that came to your clan. I won't know till He tells me I am done.

Who knows the will of a god?"

-"You call on usss by showing at the proper entrance and... calling on usss!" says the male dragon with a hint of humour.

At the outburst between team mates, he frowns.

-"Ssss. Don't Ssstart a holy war in my cave! And don't sssee potential zombies everywhere, dwarf. Hunt and kill necromancersss if it putsss your ancestorsss sssoul to rest. But dessecrating corpssse outside of ssshadowlandsss isss pointlesss. There will never be a ssshortage of corpssse for necromancersss to work with, no matter how many you hack apart! Thossse were goblinsss, mind you. No losss!"

*Eventually...*

The adventurers obtains directions from the dragons and set out into the feyland. Guided by Nementah and Dante, they navigate confidenlty through strand and alien forests.

Eagle's Reach cannot be mistaken; the mountain doesn't look like a glorious, thousand yard high eagle's head. It is a eagle's head, shaped by mysterious powers! The beak faces eastward. On the western flank, nestled between the slop of a steep hill and the 'neck' of the eagle is a small town. Talon's Edge, if the dragons are to be believed. It's a walled town with two gates and a decent amount of traffic. The walls seems solid enough but not particularly impressive and are patrolled though apparently not especially heavily.

Safely in the shadows of a steep hill, the heroes observe from a distance and can see that soldiers control people who get in and out of the city and that visitors seem to all have some sort of identification. Most seem to be merchants.

Now, to get inside...

[sblock=AFK]I'll be away from the internets until Saturday some time. Dante will tag along until then. If we get into combat, he'll do his usual keep Virgil-in-front-and-Twin-Strike-with-reach as much as possible.[/sblock]

"Thank you for your help in dispatching the goblins. We must go now."
To warriors:
"Gods do not meddle in affairs of mortals. Mortals do, under guise of divine guidance. Rocco, your clan surely had it's clerics, why didn't gods warn you? And you, Renquist, you returned, but you say yourself, without guidance and purpose. It is left to you to find it and you can die again before you do. Gods are not something deserving of faith people give them. No more then other powerful beings, from mortals, over fey and demon lords to unknown immortals and powerful devas."

Observing the city:
"People have papers, is that some kind of money? You have to pay for the entrance?"

Renquist listens quietly to Namentah's commentary. "No offense M'lady of the Fey, but your point of view seems naive. Since I'm sure my final purpose isn't to sway your opinion of the gods, let us be done with this discussion and focus on our current goals."

Later, while observing the city. "It seems you need identification to enter the city. We could approach this several ways. We could try to fool the guards. We might be able to have a traveler or merchant guide us into the city. Or we could take their papers from them. Some of us, although not likely myself, may be able to sneak into the city, past the guards. Maybe our observant Ranger could ascertain if there are any alternative approaches, perhaps a stream that flows under the wall, or similar natural means.

What do you think?"

To Renquist
"Well, I'll be sure to call you when I find them."

City:
"Papers. Bah! There has to be a way for decent adventurer to get the papers at the gate. It may cost us a bit, but better that then to be caught within the city without them later. Altough it may be great way to come into contact with the underground."

"Nementah, gods are real and the power they give to mortals is as good as meddling. And no, that is not money, I've never heard of paper money. I mean, what's the value in that?"

OOC: Good starting points. Someone outlines an approach you'd like to try, the others either make a counter-proposal or approve. Pretty soon we should have a consesnsus and I'll take it from there.
