Pathfinder 1E (Golarion) Cannons?

This puts Golarion, perhaps, on the cusp of entering a new age where firearms could become much more widespread... or perhaps at the cusp of an age where firearms wither out and fade into obscurity as they're overshadowed by magic. By presenting firearms in this manner, we basically enable GMs with the ability to take either direction in their own games, since we know that not everyone wants firearms to be commonplace in their games.

This is excellent! While I generally have no issues with trumping something in a campaign setting if I feel it doesn't fit, this makes it even easier for one to do so logically. Looking forward to the new campaign setting book.

Almost, this. Except in my case, not only do I not want firearms to be commonplace, I don't want them to mentioned at all. You can keep your 'fire stick', give me a trusty blade any day. That's why I prefer settings more like the Dark Ages, not high medieval or renaissance because you'll find guns there.

Normally I'm with you on that. No firearms and keep it very dark ages. But I've been very impressed with the whole Golarion setting that I'm prepared to give it a try.

Isn't there a monstrously large cannon that doesn't fire anymore just outside Cassomir? And isn't a couple thousand years old?

There is the Worldbreaker. Though it sounds like the revised campaign setting coming out next year is planning to alter when gunpowder came into play from 4000 years ago to 100 years ago.

I am not into firearms in my fantasy worlds either but Golarion, and it appears even more so the upcoming revised Golarion handles either option quite well. Were I setting a campaign in the revised setting based on what James said, firearms are just a part of history and they fizzled out, the gunpowder went bad and they don't exist except in the history records.

I think the reason why gunpowder firearms don't bother me so much in this is from reading Sargava the Lost Colony. After reading that I had visions of adventurers wearing pith helmets in an isolated fort holding off an overwhelming force of Mwangi insurgents with flintlockes, ala Zulu!

My own taste in settings runs more towards the 17th Century than the mediaeval. Handguns, pistols, cannon, the printing press, religious wars, and ships capable of crossing the ocean. No chronometer yet, so navigation still had a bit of mystery....

And just because it has been coming to my mind lately....

The Maiden of the High Seas by World Works Games - five years later she is still my favorite ship for gaming - more than twenty-four inches long, she dominates the table....

The Auld Grump, my favorite piece of gaming terrain in general, actually.... Arrr!
