Swordmage Feat Swordbond for a Warden - Thoughts?

Minifig

First Post
Prerequisites: Con: 13, Int: 13. ---- And you don't have to multiclass into the Swordmage apparently (though I could be wrong.. someone care to correct me here?).

By spending one hour of meditation with a chosen light or heavy blade, you forge a special bond with the weapon. As a standard action, you can call your bonded weapon to your hand from upto 10 squares away. You can forge a different blade using the same meditation practice (for instance, if you acquire a new blade that has magical abilities). If you forge a different blade, the old bond dissipates. If your bonded weapon is broken or damaged, you can spend an hour of meditation to recreate the weapon from any fragment. This process also destroys any other fragments in existence so you can't recreate multiple copies of the broken weapon.

So as many of you know, I'm a Wilden Warden intent on going on the Lorekeeper epic path (possibly.. I like the idea of it.. as it goes along with my character's background story)..

I stumbled upon this re-reading my Forgotten Realms Players Guide and Arcane Power books.

It seems like it would be a massively helpful spell for a Warden primary to have.. wouldn't it?

I think you're talking about the Heart of the Blade feat, which gives you the Swordmage's Swordbond class feature. That IS a multiclass Swordmage feat. If you take it, you are multiclassed as a Swordmage (which means you can't multiclass into anything else).

I think it's mainly a flavor feat, which is cool. From a mechanics perspective, it's helpful in case you're ever imprisoned and your sword taken away from you, but I'm hard-pressed to think of a lot of cases where it really DOES anything aside from having nifty flavor.

If you like it, go for it!

Cheking on the Compendium the only feat that matches the given description is Hear of the Blade which is the sowrdmage multiclass feat.

Why will multiclassing nerf your character? Did you have another multiclass you were going to pick instead? (Does Lorekeeper have a prereq? I don't have my books in front of me.)

There is a nice flavorful ritual or two which could give basically the ability but you have to recast it between use. Our Green Knight / aka warden has ritual caster but not that one.

I'd like to correct you here ODM,.. I used the character creator today and cranked my characters stats to Con: 13 & Int: 13.. and I could take it, and I wasn't a Swordmage multiclass. :)

How that class feature is massively helpful to your warden?

In 4e, you rarely drop or break your weapon.

I was just checking, I'm new to D&D 4e. :)

I asked my DM about it and he said it'd be a waste of a feat and cranking my stats toward that build, so in the long run I don't think I'm going to go for it.

Um, yes, it is.

It's under the multiclass category. It says Multiclass Swordmage as part of the feat name!

I was not multiclassed as a Swordmage, and when I bumped my stats upto the required stats, it let me take it.

Try it in the DDI character creator. It will let you take it.
