I like all the cartoon pictures in the 1e DMG. My favorite is

We'll, either it's some device which enables one to cast the 'Bigby's Hand' spells, or it's a +3 backscratcher. So far we're not sure which..."

Scratch what I said above.

The bast was "It's a great new fantasy roleplaying game. We pretend we're workers and students in an industialised and technological society."

The Monk with the "Papers & Paychecks" book was pretty funny. I'm just gald d20 modern didn't end up like this!:)

The picture of the mage on the cover of "The Magister" which was filled with a lot of magic items.

The other picture is from the 1st ed dmg. 2-3 characters, one olding a wand or rod that has a fist on the top with the caption "It either casts various Bigby hand spells or it's a +3 backscratcher"

4 pictures...

One already mentioned "Bigby's Hand or +3 backscratcher." Captured the humor many of us play with.

3 from older Dragon Magazines...
1. Cover of a Thanksgiving issue, a fighter carving a turkey (and table) in half. Everyone looking startled. Just the thing for the holidays.
2. Cover of another Dragon a fighter and a dwarf sneaking into a treasure laden room with a dragon curled above them up some stairs. That one probably stands out the most as D&D.
3. In the back of one older dragon mag, a little dragon looking across a ash tray at a cigarette with a little heart smoke ring. The only 'cute' D&D pic I ever liked.

The picture of the Paladin hacking his way through a bunch of devils in hell. Not great art, but lots of fun and inspiring!

I always liked the old Tom Wham illustrations too.

This was titled 'A Paladin in Hell'. I always liked it too. Apparently we weren't the only ones as they made a module of the same name not too long ago.

I have a trio of favourites and they turn out to be all by the same artist, Brom.

My absolute favourite is Brom's wild elf. It forever changed my perception of this race, and apart from some small details was the first ever character I played in DnD.

I also like Brom's take on the dark elf very much. I didn't like older artwork of drizzt at all. To me Brom's rendition is spot on.

My third favourite is Brom's Elric. I realy like these because to my mind Brom has captured the torment of Elric's soul perfectly.

It is a feature of many Brom pieces, He often seems to be able to capture not just the surface, the looks, but also the inner turmoil.

Did I mention I like Brom?
