Do you recall a nostalgic D&D picture/illustration?

Back in the early 1980's Larry Elmore did a wall poster for TSR, and this poster was for sale in the Sears Catalog. My mother ordered it for me for Christmas, and to this day I lament its loss due to wear, tear, and house moving over the years. It had two things that make it stand out in my mind:

1) It had both a male and female in the shot, fighting a dragon. This was in the early 1980's when RPG's were primarily a male activity.

2) The woman was not dressed in a thong and a feather.

It remained on the wall of my bedroom as a kid for many many years.

Sadly, I tried looking for it online, but did not find it at Larry Elmore's gallery. It had a man and woman fighting a Red Dragon, the red dragon loomed over the man, and the woman was in full armor, crouching under a rock, trying to get in position for a sneak attack.

Ditto that! I had that poster for quite a while too! I loved it *goes Google-whacking*

I forget if this was the 1e Fiend Folio or 1e Monster Manual 2, but there was this beefed up fighter or barbarian wielding a two handed sword on top of some steps.

He had just finished slicing a lizardman. Great action shot.

Fiend Folio- right next to the Lizard King entry.

I loved the inside cover of Decent Into the Depths of the Earth. If you looked closely at it, the drow had Captain America's shield and Iron Man's helmet in a box with Spider Man's face. Plus, it was a cool illo on it's own right.

All the Jeff Dee and Bill Willingham stuff was great. The mind flayer in the sci fi jumpsuit in Expedition to the Barrier Peaks certainly jumps to mind.

And since they haven't been mentioned, I also really liked the little vignettes along the bottom of some of the pages in the back of the DMG with adventurers going through a dungeon and fighting salamanders.

And obviously, I loved the "A Paladin in Hell" picture in the 1E PHB.

Anything by Jeff Dee, especially the cover of S2: White Plume Mountain and all the gods he did in 1st edition Deities & Demigods, but really anything.

I also like most of the monsters in the 1st edition Monster Manual. There is also a great picture in I1: Dwellers of the Forbidden City where a beautiful "Mystic Mistress" is whacking the hell out of a bunch of scared Mongrelmen. I also like a lot of the art in the original GDQ series, including the one you mentioned in the giant kitchen. I don't know why but I love that giant crayfish in T1: The Village of Hommlet, too. I also like a lot of drawings done in old Judges Guild and Role Aids stuff.

But overall Jeff Dee rules.

Tetsubo, where did that Jeff Dee drawing come from anyhow? Thanks.

Possibly from the Dragon Archive CD.

Darksun- Ruins of Guistenal- Dregoth a bout to smash a bunch of puny adventurers running across a bridge.

Dragon magazine last year with the 1/2ling thief. Sad when non-D&D players want to check out a book and ask where the pictures of her are. "She has back!"

Then...anything by Brom

Nifty! Anyone with a copy of that- could you get it's image here?

From Deities and Demigods...

That one Deity with teh snake wrapped around his torso... I do not recall the individual, but that picture has been the inspiration for many a villain of mine...
