Are there any published spells out there that make the target throw up? Could be good for a 1-round distraction, or a lasting nausea/sickened condition - but I'm mostly thinking of how to make a huge critter barf up a swallowed comrade.

Heat Root - how to get them to eat it?

This relative of ginger is tasty and has a spicy hot flavor. However, heat root is much more potent, and when used in foods and dishes, it is used sparingly. Though, there are times when it is eaten in its pure form. Eating pure heat root has an unsettling effect on the stomach in addition to its fiery taste. The character must succeed on a DC 13 Fortitude save or vomit and take 1 point of Constitution damage, becoming Nauseated for 1d4 hours. However, those who manage to keep this magical root in their system are granted boons. Heat root only grants these boons if the character can keep it in his stomach long enough for it to take effect (usually about a minute, though, if it is mixed with food, the saving throw is made typically at the end of a meal).

I guess anything that gives the Nauseated condition could do it. Nauseating Breath from Spell Compendium being a good candidate to use for this purpose. It's a cone, allows no SR, only a level 3 spell, and makes victims nauseated for a few rounds.

Alternatively, a generous reading of Entice Gift (target must spend its next turn presenting one item of your choice in its possession to you) could work. If you don't mind getting vomitted on for a friend.

3.0 Command might have worked with a Command of "Regurgitate". Have to say might since not everything can puke on command.

The character gives the subject a one-word command, which the subject obeys to the best of his or her ability. A very reasonable command causes the subject to suffer a penalty on the saving throw (from –1 to –4, at the DM’s discretion). A command of “Die” causes the subject to fake death. A command of "Suicide" fails because "suicide" is generally used as a noun, not as a command.

3.5 was wise to these shenanigans and put the spell in line with other low level enchantment spells that don't have a creature type limitation.

I'm surprised you skipped past Stinking Cloud.

I was thinking of it, but couldn't remember if it gave the nauseated condition or not and was too lazy to look it up. So yeah, Stinking Cloud, too. It's still questionable if "experiencing stomach distress" will unfailingly lead to puking, though, it'd be nice to find a more definitive solution.

Isn't there a spell called something like "Bitter Taste" specifically for use against things with bite attacks? I believe that when cast on a character, a creature biting that character has to save or become nauseated. I'm pretty sure something like this is published, but I can't find it.

As for actual regurgitation, though, I think one of the compulsion enchantments is the only way to go by RAW. Especially Stream's suggestion of using Entice Gift to retrieve a friend by way of the technicolor yawn. That's brilliant, spectacular and disgusting all rolled into one glistening steaming mess!

If you want a mechanic, though, it would be easy enough to just make it so a save vs the nauseated condition that fails by (for ex) 5 or more means the creature vomits, if it is capable of vomiting.

The spell you're thinking of is Horrible Taste, a level 1 spell in SpC. It wouldn't work in the OP's situation since you cast it on the eat-ee and it's a touch range spell that forces th eat-er to fort save or become nauseated. Also, the spell only says when it bites the creature, so even if you did pre-buff, a strict reading would say in stomach = byond the parameters of the spell. Though it'd seem to go with the intent.
