Yes it is...but how does that make it offensive?

As well as it being the title of a specific figure, it also has a long tradition of common usage in many Middle Eastern naming conventions. Much like Jesús is used as a common name in many Latin cultures (pronounced hay-soos).

The name and figure were used by Frank Herbert as the source for Muad'dib in Dune, and used in a culturally accurate and respectful manner. This was the inspiration for my use of it. I've never seen any offense by anyone or any culture for Herbert's usage.

I have never seen an instance or circumstance where usage of the name is offensive or prohibited (as some other related cultural aspects are), nor am I using it in a manner that's disrespectful or culturally inaccurate. I've also never seen anything, anywhere, in any culture, that considers the figure it represents as offensive. On the contrary, it's almost universally an inspiring name and figure (except for those who have abused the title).

So again, I'm not seeing where it's offensive...?

This isn't an insult. Literally, you have no first hand knowledge or understanding of SR4. You have never played it. I'm fairly certain you've never even read it. The comments being made reflect this.

You don't stick to "just the text at hand," you take it in the scope of the system. No more then claiming the Demonomicon or Fiend Folio is about literally worshipping Satan.

I'm not nuts about ignorant, even if not intended as an insult, but I totally buy "lacking in knowledge or understanding of the system you are speaking of." This is a case where having read SR4 is essential to having an informed discussion about the topic at hand.

Creating an adventure hook based on the real world suffering of millions of people, for the purpose of entertainment (as opposed to the purpose of promoting awareness of these events, or highlighting the courage of the victims and those that supported them, or simply including and describing it because it exists and can't be ignored)...then for me it exceeds the bounds of good taste.

To each their own, but as for me...I've never bought any Shadowrun material before (though I did own and play the Shadowrun videogame for Sega Genesis back in the 90's), but it wasn't outside the realm of possibility that I might someday be interested in doing so. But now, because of this supplement, I most assuredly will not buy a Shadowrun product.

Indeed, to each there own. Just for example -I myself am a black man. I am very much aware of the suffering of American slaves, and the mistreatment of African Americans who (though against there will) were made critical asset that built America, and of their own free will fought in almost every war America has ever been in.

What if instead, there was a plantation adventure hook where you had to combat the ghosts or skeletal undead of American slaves that had been killed by the KKK and recover a Klan artifact?

I honestly dont entirely know, but offhand it sounds like (depending how it played out) could make an interesting Call of Cthulhu adventure. One thing I can say it would illustrate, is that idea that the evil mortal men do lives long after them. Honestly, I think (good) adventurers at least would try to destroy the artifact or relic if that would put the dead at ease. In a magical version of our own world, I could definitely see the relic being sought by Awakened characters of either ideology, Neo-Nazi or Klanners, and I (as any PC I have ever played) do not think I would want them to have that.
