WotC Angst?

I am not really angry with them, but I am afraid for them and where they're taking the mainstay of the hobby.

I think at the moment there is a lot of angst...that is because threads on enworld tend to perpetuating.

We get on the subject of issues with WOTC. That leads someone to write another thread about WOTC.

Suddenly you are logging in and seeing 3 anti-WOTC threads...which makes you think there is definately some anti-WOTC sentiment going on.

I haven't even looked at any of the threads in general about WotC lately. Except for the layoff one, I guess. I was mad as hell for a long time about the removal of pdfs and had sort of let that slide into a general "meh" indifference about WotC. Then they went and bullied crystalkeep and reminded me once again why I hate them! All I hope for now is for them to fail. I thought after a few years they were done messing with us older edition players and we had just gone our separate ways, they do their 4E thing or whatever, we enjoy our game, the end. But nope, pretty clear now that as long as 3E material is accesible, they're never going to leave us alone, so all I hope for now is for them to go bankrupt.

You know if the class were renamed Security Consultant rather than rogue I think there'd be a lot less wangst than generated by people who get confused by rogue and rouge because of how similar they and the nitpickers wouldn't have anything to get their dander up.

I think that word causes more wangst that WotC.

Come on people.

I don't have anything for or against WotC these days. They produce 4e and the support for it, but I went with Pathfinder, so their current offerings isn't something that interest me. I do have interest in the Ravenloft game and Gamma World, but I haven't devoted a budget toward their purchase as of yet and 2011 is probably unlikely.

No kidding. I have a friggin' degree in English, and even I realize how confusing it is.

Although if I were going to change the name of the class, I'd change it to Morally-Ambiguous-Multi-Talented-Problem-Solving-Black-Leather-Clad-Lesbian-Stripper-Ninja. Much more evocative, don't you think?

Meh.
I was into 4e at first, I thought it opened up some space for roleplaying with less rules for such. But as play went on it became apparant combat was too long (1 hr + for the simplest of fights - midigated occassionally by heavy DM houseruling - we had a few session of 20-30 min fights, but as levels go up that became impossible to maintain).

Not helped by that as 4e has continued its roll out it seems to grow ever more focused on tactical combat - pass thanks - there are many videogames & even miniature wargames that handle combat better than D&D ever has. What D&D does well is in offering unique choices in neat settings and interesting roleplaying opportunities.

I've gone back to 2e - I'm meh on the current D&D - I'll check it out when 5e rolls around eventually.
