Genius ideas that would make us millionaires if we weren't so lazy.

Last night some friends and I realized we all wished we had learned how to program, because we had a completely original idea for a video game so awesome that everyone would buy it and make it all rich. Since we're too lazy to do the work, though, maybe some of you could get cracking at it.

You know the Kinect? What it needs is a magic duel game. You'd cast spells with different gestures, and some basic spells would work like different sports.

Fireball? Draw back your arm and hurl it through the air like an American football.

Lightning bolt? Throw up one hand like you're tossing up a tennis ball, then swing your other arm to hurl the bolt like you're serving the ball.

Magic missile? Ultimate frisbee.

Or riff on Street Fighter. If you crouch, then step forward and stand up while punching, you'll fire a bolt of energy.

Now all the Kinect needs is some way to move around on your own, instead of standing still or moving on rails.

So please, somebody make that game. I want to play it. I'll buy it from you.

Anybody else have genius ideas that just require too much work?

GameStop REALLY hates it when I drop by, because I inevitably ask for:

- Sweeney Todd for the Wii
- Pan Flute Hero
- A fishing game where I get play the fish and drown fishermen

Um, no, not me. Not to hard to do, but money or not involved (if i had it enough to make the game and licenses and such), I wouldn't want to make a game that has people doing stuff like that and think Wii Fit already is too much crap involved.

Go outside for excercise, not have kids (of all ages) jumping aorund in the house for them to get hurt or break stuff.

Also Kinect (Natal?) is XBOX only, so is a closed market, so to be viable it would need to be available on all platforms, and even Nintendo Power Glove games that were like that had people soon lose interest.

You really need a holo-deck for those things to be lasting in my opinion.

Now you get a holo-deck and them I am 100% on board with you. Give me the design elements you want and I will start coding.

Sweeney Todd for the Wii sounds totally awesome! Giving someone a shave and then slitting their throats is just too cool of a game to pass up!

I could be wrong, but i keep thinking that i saw something similar to this for the wii already years ago -- the wiimote is like a wand and different gestures made different spell effects.

while not exactly the same thing you're talking about, it's fairly close....

(of course, i could just be imagining the existence of that game, who knows ...)

My idea is Kinect for dogs, as a communication device. Dogs are already trained to use voice and body language to say things, everything from "I need to go to the bathroom" to "You, sheep. Move away from the herd and into this pen" to "Hey, there's cocaine in the trunk of this car." Using Kinect/ Wii tech for interpreting and feedback, we could teach them to give more detailed information and explore what their cognitive limits really are, when provided a way to develop a "language".

Link from Zelda and you actually use the device to shoot arrows and such by making weird hand gestures. Kinect however just uses motion detection without the device in your hand, so you aren't actually wielding anything but tracking your own movements rather than just the object.

Hole in the Wall for Kinect.

And then there is the diabloesque game I'd been thinking on, hoping I'll get good enough one day to program it (if real life ever leaves me alone...) - with the main character being an undead pirate ninja who rides a dinsoaur and has a transforming "mecha" pirate ship....
