D&D 4E What should the next new official campaign setting for 4e be like?

We have Eberron which have a pseudo-steampunk theme, we have Ravenloft which has a gothic horror theme, and we have Dark Sun which has the feel of sword and sorcery authors like Howard and Moorcock. What kind of new official campaign setting would you like to see WoTC make? I'd like to see a setting that has a prehistoric ice age kind of world, kinda like the movie 10,000 BC.

Presumably they'd use the settings they obtained with the setting search, unless their opinions have changed as to the quality of those settings or as to their relevance to today's audience.

Regarding a 4E-specific feel, I'd like to see a setting that made the spirits and the like a more visible part of the world, rather than being things essentially inserted into the world when useful, and everything feels more integrated but shadowy and just below the surface, like in Neil Gaimen novels.

Well, as a side note, RL isn't out yet, and has been pushed back (from what I read coming out of D&DXP).

That said, I'd love a setting with built-in opportunities and hooks for dominion management. It's a shtick I love to use- the pcs in my current game declared themselves governors of their local area when they were about 3rd level (there was a total lack of authority or governance, it's a backwater). I guess something like Birthright, though I never got to play or read it.

Didn't they do one like that called Ghostwalk or something like that for 3rd or 3.5?

Personally, I would've rather them done Ravenloft this year instead of Neverwinter. I mean is there a real difference between Neverwinter and Forgotten Realms in tone? I know there's a big clamor for Dragonlance and Greyhawk too, but they fall into that "nothing really unique" when it comes to the actual setting compared to NV or FR. Just the backstory, geography, and characters. Might as well be in Middle Earth.

Personally, I'd like to see Ravenloft then Spelljammer. I've got zero interest in Spelljammer, but I like when they do something completely different. Gives me more options to steal for my own campaign (I'd never run a Dark Sun adventure because I like Divine and Arcane too much, but I've stolen a lot of stuff from the campaign book).

But you know what I'd REALLY like to see? Wizards getting the license to do Alera. You KNOW Jim Butcher would jump at the chance...

I just figured something, if Zakhara from FR has its own setting (Al' Qa'dim), why don't Maztica and Kara-Tur have their own campaign settings as well? I think that would be pretty neat.

Maztica had some sort of release - you could find aaaancient 2E articles on the WotC site some time ago for download, even. It would certainly have to be revamped like crazy for 4E, but it could work. Throw in a lot of other classically tribal cultural characteristics, some Savage Land flavor, and so on, and it could be quite interesting.

I could see the classic 4E deities getting an awesome tribal/totemic reskin.

Ghostwalk, I feel, would be too narrow and gimicky for a full setting, but maybe as a semi-setting in Dungeon?

It would be pretty cool if Maztica became a standalone setting like Al' Qa'dim. I'm not sure if Kara-Tur should also become standalone or be part of a 4e Oriental Adventures.

I'd like to see a seafaring setting. The dungeons are mostly on islands you have to reach by ship. The different races mostly come into contact by visiting each others ports or on the open sea.

Not looking for a Freeport or 4e Pirates of the Carribean setting. Something fresh. For that matter, it could be the same default world as the Nentir Vale, just somewhere else far away.

Something new, first off.

Secondly, something that isn't based on Medieval Western Europe, at least not entirely. I have a real interest in the Midgard project because of its focus on Slavic and Eastern European/Russian myth.

Thirdly, something that pushes the unique aspects of 4e, things like the Shadowfell and Feywild, gives a new spin on the Dawn War, new origins for races, not unlike Zeitgeist (in some respects).

Definitely NOT a kitchen sink world, unless they're going to expand Nentir.
