Original D&D vs. D&D4 - Can't We All Just Get Along?

I'm not sure what the point of yet *another* post like this could be exactly, except to use someone else's framework (major deja vu there, btw) to point out what everybody already knew anyway: that you can convert characters, monsters, and other stuff pretty freely between OD&D, BECM, 1e, 2e, and 3e, and that 4e is on the other side of a "conversion wall" because it was intentionally rebuilt from the ground up. Whoopty-doo, huge revelation, yadda yadda yadda.

1974 to 2008 = D&D
2008 to present = Another D&D.

I like it.

I hereby declare the end to the Edition Wars!!!

May there be peace and fellowship among all D&D Players!*
:):):)

*Well, at least until 5th Edition comes out.... :uhoh:

Or, I could say:

D&D: 1974 - 2000
3E: 2000-2008:
D&D: 2008 - present

Welcome home, D&D.

However, it would be grossly unfair, and equally as wrong, even though it's been my experience.
I'd agree with it.

Over all I see everything Pre-3E in one big camp (with clear distinctions, but by and large cohesive). I see 3E and 4E as each their own things. But, to me, 4E is closer to pre-3E D&D than 3E is. Of course, I wasn't playing D&D anymore for quite some time until 3E came along.

Also, it is good to see you noting that there is SOME perceptible difference. :)

There's plenty of traffic and still-civil discussion on the other thread you mention, so I'm closing this one out.
