D&D 4E Is it me, or are we in a 4e dry spell?

I can't seem to shake the feeling that 4e is in a slow spell...with little to get all excited about at the moment. There are some cool products on down the road (that we know about), but right now, it's kinda meh.

Is anyone else feeling it?

Perhaps it is just me feeling flat, but I can recall good times when these boards were rampant with speculation/opinions about new D&D products.

Yeah, is anyone else feeling it?

It's not just you. Not only has it been a while since a major release, but there've been cancellations and restructuring so there's a degree of uncertainty. It's hard to feel enthusiastic about something in such a climate.

Absolutely. But at the same time, 4E has become a more mature product, so there will be fewer additions to it. How many martial powers books can you print before everything becomes redundant, or you get power creep?

I'd like to see more DM books, like Open Grave, Plane Above, etc. But I understand those have a limited appeal to players and hence sell less.

But I agree, we're in the desert on a horse with no name and only a couple of oasis' are rumored ahead.

There are a host of products WoTC could do in ye old 'Essentialized' formats if they so choose.

Heroes of the Mind springs up immediately to add things like the Soul Blade and Essentialize the PHB3 bits.

But regardless of what they could do....

Yes, it is a dry spell. And that's true for some stores as well. Without the #1 RPG producer making new products, the actual need for people to go to the store relies heavily on doing things like the Encounters seasons.

Yeah, we have a bit of a dry spell, especially for print products. I'm wondering how much good stuff will b on DDI in$ the next few months though.

I'm personally happy... If they DO manage to use the time to submit better products, that is a good thing... Also I now have more disposable income to put towards other games which I also like. :)

Win win for me!

There's a lesson here: don't get excited about products for a game, get excited about playing the game!

exactomundo.

The times I've like ENworld best has been those times when people are chatting about the game they are playing/have played/are going to play, and least on those occasions when it was all about the new product...

:)

I dunno about a dry spell. Sure there's not much in the way of books etc. coming out right now, but during prior editions they sort of conditioned us to watch for new stuff coming out all the time. Now that there isn't, there's maybe a feeling of something not quite being right.

I don't really feel it. I've picked up the Monster Vault and the Rule Compendium new. My campaign is going great guns, and its been a little bit refreshing. Im actually on a D&D high right now.

On the other hand, I was never much of a book buyer anyway. In 3e I had the core 3 plus Necromancers Tome of Horrors, and I picked up Dungeonscape in the later years. Went for years on just those and had some great games. So maybe the lack of product doesn't bother me so much.

Or maybe its just because I started in the 1e AD&D days when there weren't so many books.

Either way, I go with what Delericho said. I get excited about playing, and not so much about new product.

I agree - at least I'm trying to frame my mind in this manner. If you listen to the last WotC podcast (subscribe via iTunes - it's very good), this aspect is very specifically stated. It may just be PR excuses, but I believe it. And I hope that better products with more creatively and quality will follow.

And, I can save a few dollars with is good for me even when I'd rather just spend it.
