Its been 3 Years......

*snip*

Most forums I visit simply let the profanity filter do it's job, apparently that's not good enough here, you must have no strings of smiley faces in your posts!

Heil! ;)

And with that, I'll call the matter closed, although you are all more than welcome to continue hating me for however long you wish, as your opinions of me have absolutely no meaning to me.

the profanity filter actually gives the smileys in the place of the profanity. But I must warn you, Chainsaw has been banned by guvner morris himself and the standard is to drop the incident snd discuss it no further. He did come back as chainsaw 2 and i am guessing he was reported for trying to circumvent the ban, which is a no no.

I do not hate you but I'm not reading any more of your posts.

OT:

It really does not seem like it has been three years already. Could someone remind me what works he did in the last ten years or so? I really do not know.

I think the very problem is not so much stating your opinion, but dropping it into a thread meant to honor and mourn dead person. It would be akin to dropping into a Britney Spears forum just to say her music sucks. It's no problem having an opinion, you just should be careful what venue you place it in.

Dice for Hire,

Most of Gary's efforts were focused on Lejendary Adventures, which was released in 1999. You can likely find a lot of them in used game stores.

He did a few "Slayers Guides" from Mongoose with Jon Creffield for d20.

He did a series of Gygaxian Fantasy Worlds books, although it was more like Tom Clancy presents for most of the later ones. Living Fantasy, World Builder's Guide, and Canting Crew were all or mostly Gygax though.

The Hall of Many Panes was his big mega-adventure for this last decade, released from TLG. Sadly, I have mixed feelings, as I did not think the d20 conversion was best. (It was mostly designed for LA).

The Castle Zagyg series had one book mostly Gary, Yggsburg.

Interestingly enough, Gygax wrote a lot more between 1994 and 2003, until his stroke hit, then he did less of that, rather focusing on talking to more people online and putting his projects in the hands of others. There are several projects that were LA based that never saw print for various reasons, and of the unpublished Gygax work that's probably in the best shape to print.

Yes, I'm aware the profanity filter puts the smileys in place - that's what I was referring to, most forums I visit just let the filter do that and the mods don't care because the filter takes out the profanity. I did not realize it was different here, but I got it now. And thanks for the warning.

Agreed, and I'll attribute that poor decision to the "bad day" as well. Certainly not one of the wisest decisions I've ever made, but again, when the rage is on there's really no telling what I'll do, and sometimes the rage is bad enough to nullify the meds that normally keep it in check, as I stated above. It doesn't make what I did any less bad, I'm just explaining the situation for anyone who cares at this point.

I was going to pick up a copy of Lejendary Adventures at either Noble Knight or Troll And Toad (both great places to deal with btw), but the price was too high for me. If you're looking for copies of it, I'd recommend trying those two websites.

BTW - totally OT here, but is there a way to set the default thread subscription to "do not subscribe"? I can't find it anywhere in the settings, and I often forget to do it manually and end up receiving a dozen emails that I could really do without.

I may be blind. I can't see the "EN World's rules do not apply in this thread" sign. Shall I summarize which ones are being completely ignored here?

1) No profanity.
2) No insulting other members, including deceased ones.
3) No discussing moderation in the thread.

It seems that some people think that a thread which is about Gary Gygax in some way makes one above the rules. I'll take this opportunity to remind you all that no thread subject has the ability to give you permission to break the rules.

Other situations where you may think the rules don't apply, but they still do:

1) When you "think you're right"
2) When you've seen someone else break the rules
3) When you're angry

I don't want to close the thread, but I will if this continues. I don't have the time or inclination to babysit it.

He had a stroke in either 2003 or 2004, can't remember, and then the meds gave him a heart attack. It didn't affect his cognitive capabilities at all.

The stroke was minor, all things considered. But he had to slow down, and he also got diagnosed with an problem with the aoerta that put him, as he put it, on "borrowed time". He also had a bad case of Shingles in 2006.

I think Gary went from working 40-60 hours per week writing/researching to about 10 or 20 at the most.

Wow. any one of those is bad, but all three. I really regret not ever meeting him.

I think we (and Gary) were all very lucky he lived a relatively long life, and did not have a "long goodbye" like some older people do, and did not suffer a lot.
