That Thing You Won't Ever Do

I will not DM a game in the Forgotten Realms. It's not so much that I have something against Forgotten Realms as it is I don't want to deal with Forgotten Realms fanboyism at the table. I found out when I DMed Star Wars how problematic it can be to have an entheusiastic fan at the table that knows more about the setting than I do, and as DM, I don't want those headaches again. So I may allow elements in my games if asked, or raid it for ideas, but I won't DM the actual setting.

If a GM messes with my character concept. Not my character, but the concept. Like if I create a Batman/Punisher type guy for a supers game, and during a routine physiological scan, the GM comments about his "enhanced agility, endurance, and strength" without any kind of big reveal or anything, he just throws it out there, and now my characer is a mutant, just because. Now, if my character were unbenownst to himself, a mutant, and there was some kind of payoff, and there was a reason this was important (giant mutant pogrom going into action, or his missing father turns out to be Magneto, or he secretly has slow but powerful regeneration allowing him to not die or something), then I could maybe accept it. But just changing stuff, without my permission, without explanation, arbitrarily and for no reason? No, that's not cool. I don't want to be told my guy is blond because that would be "cooler" or that instead of being created by a vampire who was a Prohbition Mobster he spent the last two decades in the arms of a vampire ex-hippie drug designer etc.etc. If my choices don't negatively impact anybody, why can't i just make the choices I prefer?

Ahhhh, you mean a canon lawyer! :D

Easy answer for that in Star Wars, just take the game to a place and time where you can do what you want.

Part of it, although we were running pretty far off the rails on the crazy train (Running Legacy Era like it was the Clone Wars with a hidden jedi sect that was coming out of hiding - and they had a clone army). The first couple of sessions the guy kept looking for a sabac game, and I had no idea what it was at the time (obviously the answer was "you don't find it"). Little things like that build up to be a big annoyance, which drains the fun out of DMing.

I will not be part of a campaign with rape in it.

I've GMed a superhero game where one of my PCs performed a live autopsy on a man to get information out of him, then sold his organs and gave the funds to a cause the victim hated as a final insult. That actually gave me nightmares.

But rape... can't do it. Won't do it. Really won't have anything to do with it. Not because it's happened to me, or anyone I know, but because I just won't. No reason, just NO.

I will not play in a group that drinks heavily or partakes of cannibus. All too often the heavy drinking gets headache loud and the smoke from cannibus makes me puky ill.

Smoking gets mne too.

I think the most anyone at our table has ever drunk was a couple beers and that is rare.

Drugs would be a kick-out-of-the-group thing for me.
