Favorite Superhero types

Steeliest of the dragons
buppa bupbuppa bupbaaaaahhhhh.

Today is a momentous occasion...Steel Dragons is starting/posting a NON-D&D thread!!!!

I have been a lifelong X-men and Justice League fan (comics since the 70's and particularly the Wolverine & the X-Men and JLU animated series)...yet the only "superhero" RG I've ever played was the original Marvel Superheroes game (that FASERIP one)...

So I'm curious, no matter what game you play your heroes in (and please do specify and tote its merits), what is your favorite type of hero to play?

The alien? The mech? The mystic? The mutant? The normal guy with gadgets? Whatever it happens to be...let me know.

It's a Superhero kinda day. :D

For myself, I'm afraid even I fall back on my fantasy roots and prefer those with magically originating or psychic powers...but give me a "Storm" (from the X-men) type and I'm all for it!

More to come...now back to my regularly scheduled programming.

hmmm...

mutant: storm, nightcrawler, iceman/firestar/johnny storm/basically your elemental-mutants
normal guy with gadgets: batman, greenarrow, catwoman

basically, i definately lean towards "the normal person who finds themselves thrust into extraordinary circumstances" so that is your mutants and your guys with gadgets.

i get bored with the bruiser/tank types (superman/woman woman/hulk/thing) -- not that they can't be interesting characters, they just aren't my prefered archetype in terms of archetype interest (rather than personality interest)
and while i enjoy the magicy or alien-y types as characters, i likewise can't take too much of them because of their magic or alien-abilities are not defined and often end up being as strong or weak as needed by the plot of the episode/story.

I've always prefered the all-rounder type of character regardless of genre. So in a Supers game I'd be trying to put together someone who could fly, zap, and have another power or two just in case. (A bit of Invulnerability or Damage Reduction wouldn't hurt! :D)

If you look at my stable of Supers PCs, you'll see a bit of everything: speedsters, bricks, PAGs, skill-monkeys, aliens, mutants and mystics. And of course, I mix & match. Just because one is playing a PAG, doesn't mean the armor's power source has to be technological- mages could make a suit of armor that does the same stuff but powered by mana...or life-force.

At this point, actually, I rarely design cookie-cutter Supers. I almost always have to put some kind of spin on the basic concept. The one exception I can think of is speedsters: most of mine are predictably designed.

My favorite types are big brawlers like the Hulk followed by playing a mutant. I'm not opposed to playing other types though. For instance I'd love to play a guy that has flight, regeneration, comprehend languages, invisibility and phasing as my powers. Another character I'd love to play is a character like the Molecule Man, who can create and control any objects he can imagine out of thin air.

I'd also love to play in a campaign in which I can fully play myself as a super hero as well.

Someone with both a power and an important non-power skill that comes up a lot.

For instance, Cyclops has optic blast, but he's also a very good military officer (equivalent; I'm not sure if he has any formal military training).

Brick.

Superstrength is the quintessential superhero power. And it's hella fun too - punching holes in walls, throwing buses around, doing Hulk leaps.

stealing ideas from the worst super heroes ever thread (rpg.net) and trying to play them.

A telekinetic cactus that rides around in a self-propelled little-red-wagon.
and vibrates the air to make speech. (the GM would not let me play it, but stole concept for an NPC)

The ability to summon a viking longboat (falls out of sky, preferably on enemies) zombie vikings come pouring off and hit stuff with axes.
This ability can be grafted onto any other character. " I can read minds, create a force field, and summon a longboat full of undead vikings" or I can run really fast and summon a... "

I have an fast talking alien-symbiont grafted to my right buttock. It can spit (acid/fire/ or?) my costume has an appropriate flap...

Headbutt-boy. I can control other peoples side-kicks, deliver a devastating forehead smash (my only attack), and have a secret ID as a head waiter at a fancy french restaurant.

Really anything from the TICK will work too.
