Mounted Combat Help

Hello everyone interested:
I have a question concerning mounted combat.

If your mount has either Greater Flyby attack (flying spring attack) or spring attack can the rider get an attack (or a full attack if it has full mounted combat class feature) while the mount does its spring attack (or flyby attack)? I am thinking "Yes". Since a rider gets to use its mounts movement.

Along the same lines: If a mount is in the middle of a spring attack and a ranged (or spellcasting) rider wants to attack (or cast a spell) does the rider provoke an AOO (assuming the rider is in the creatures reach)?

I'm inclined to say you can't use your mount's feats. After all, using Spring Attack (or Flyby Attack) is much more complicated than just relying on your mounts fast feet/hooeves/wings to get you places instead of your own. Also, there's the feat Ride-By Attack, which seems to be in the game to give you this option.

Your second question seems to become moot with the answer to the first.

Generally you can consider it your move action using the mount's speed, i.e. the two are not usually considered separate entities. A rider gets to use it's mount's movement but can only do a standard action if move >5'. I'm not aware of a feat that allows you a full attack (although some mount specific PrCs might allow it).

Or you might be able to do it with a readied action for a special move such as spring attack, but not part of the mount's action as such (there would be timing issues in the next round as well).

Yes, as only the Spring attack is exempt from the AoO
