Spider-Man Teaser

They REALLY have to change the name of the movie...

This should not be the "Amazing Spiderman" since it's looks too dark and broody (outside the obvious CG rooftop sequence).

But beyond that gripe, why does each reboot require a retelling of the origin story?

Tactfully released just after the Dark Knight Rises trailer. I find this movie far less interesting (and Batman a superior character in general). It is too soon, although I do hold some hope that the movie might be good. The tone from the trailer felt a little more "melodramatic dark" than "realistic dark" but it's only a trailer.

Because show business is full of copycats. Superhero movies have been made in the past without origins, but the superhero movie renaissance of the 2000's was successful because many movies copied off of the first Raimi Spider-Man and Batman Begins, where telling the previously untold origin stories allowed audiences to connect to the character in question. Now it's part of the formula.

so far....I like it. And disagree that Batman is a "superior" character. Much different than Batman, but hardly inferior. I think comparing the two is like apples to oranges really....

...and I'm merely saying I prefer apples. Nothing against Spider-Man or his many fans. Thought the movies (excluding the mess that was the third one) were excellent. I don't dislike Peter Parker, but I don't connect with the character the same way, I don't think his stories are as interesting or their themes as poignant, and I don't think he has a counterpart to rival any of the top five or so Batman villains. I'm not a comic book guy, so I can't argue the point any better than that, nor would I begrudge anyone who felt differently.

A too-soon Spider-Man reboot trailer released the same week as a trailer for what promises to be an epic Batman finale casts it in a poor light, IMO. All that said, I'd still rather have the new Spidey movie than most of the crap Hollywood makes.

Don't forget, there's also the Avenger's Teaser that will be released this weekend (it's at the end of Captain America). So yeah, it's trying to make itself look important considering tomorrow's Comic Con.

One thing that annoyed me about the Raimi reboot was that the spider-bite was a complete accident. Random super-hero creation is kinda meh.

I can't remember where I encountered it but I was positive that the original Spiderman was a geeky science student who engineered the spider that bit him; that, to me, is far better than some random spider biting him on a field trip.

And if I can't buy-in to the origin, then for me at least, it taints the entire character thereafter. It's one of the reasons the Bale/Nolan Batman is so cool; the origin story is awesome.

I totally agree. For some reason out of all the "accidental" radio active power origins his seems the most eye roll worthy.*

* Though on the bright side his radioactive power origin didn't turn him into a giant glowing blue nudist.

It was originally random. But by the look of this trailer, Peter will be at the lab visiting Gwen Stacy (and the lab belongs to Dr. Connors).

Also, they seem to be ramping up the importance of Peter's parents.

I just noticed something vitally important that has convinced me that this reboot will be beyond awesome.

The director's name is Marc Webb.
