SW settings that are wargamable

I'm looking for SW setting books that are structured for episodic play, the more like scenario-generators for wargames, the better. I'm not really looking for Plot Point campaigns; more like random adventure/battle generators - it is imperative that in a campaign context, it is quite possible for different players to drop in and out. Something like the mission generator in Tour of Darkness but even more so would be utterly awesome!

To clarify, I'm looking for something to run when we can't get the full gaming circle together. Ideally, the characters that are present could just tool up and go on a mission.

So what settings am I looking for here? I assume that the other Weird Wars books are structured like that, but what about Rippers? I understand that the default player org in that is sort of a mason's guild of victorian adventurers, which sounds like the kind of structure I'm looking for.

And what about non-PEG settings? I hear that Necropolis is warhammer-ish which sounds promising for scenario play. And isn't there a GI-Joe-faux supplement somewhere? Can that do episodic play?

Dazzle me with your insights! :)

You are probably better off to go to PEG's forums, but from memory here are the ones that I know have a mission/adventure generator:

  • Weird War II (mission)
  • Necropolis (mission)
  • Realms of Cthlulu
  • Wonderland No More (I think)
  • Iron Dynasty
  • Shaintar (I think)

I do not remember if Rippers and Day after Ragnarok have a generators or not.

Deadlands had a ton of 1-sheets out on PEG's website you can just grab and run (heck, you probably could get a campaign's worth of adventuring out of them). There are other 1-sheets, but Deadlands has the highest number.

My list above is by no means exhaustive, just what I remember from my collection.

I found Tour of Darkness very good for the type of play you reference: mission based with variable players from session-top session. Necropolis [2350] is also quite good for this type of play and is sort of Warhammer 40K themed. The key for me was getting the heroes in a small, special forces type of military unit. Then, whoever shows up to play gets their characters sent off on whatever mission is at hand. You can apply this to any genre of setting, but I find a military game works best as the players are already in that mind set.
