Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Did you bother to stick around and watch the post-credits scene? The movie kind of explains what happens.
Sorry, I should have been clearer. I've only seen the trailer. But then, there's the question of, if it is airborn and affects all apes... why not Humans too? 1) We are apes. 2) The trailer makes it clear that it was made with Humans in mind.

(In the original origin it was made clear that the apes had replaced dogs and cats as pets, then became menial workers, so there were a lot more of them then there are today.)

Haven't seen the movie, but you appear to be talking about an infection that affects apes differently than humans. I would like to point out that although they are closely related, humans are not apes. Real infectious organisms can have very different effects on humans than on various apes. Some infectious diseases don't even affect all human races equally due to genetic differences. Microorganisms are very particular.

Finally saw the movie last night. Pretty good movie overall. The chimp and ape effects were pretty good overall. The showdown on the bridge was well done, I thought.

I wonder if Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) is worried about being typecast as a Class A jerk? James Franco did pretty well in his role, as did Jon Lithgow. I never saw Slumdog Millionaire, but I thought Freida Pinto was just so stunningly gorgeous in her role that it was distracting to me (not in a bad way) - every time she was on screen, my mouth would drop open and I'd just stare at her.

Interesting in how the change in era (early 70s vs early 10s) changed the downfall of man from nukes to a killer virus.

Just finished making my house zombie-proof. Now I have to make it ape-proof as wel.

Lame.
Don't forget to also make it raptor-proof.

There is also one thing to consider:

With the story we had - it doesn't have to be us vs them. It might just be there is a virus that kills humans and smartens up apes. The humans die, and the apes replace them. No need for an actual war. The fighting in this movie does not need to be the setup for a world-wide ape-human war. It could just as well be the conflict only for the movie. Caesar did indicate often enough that the apes shouldn't kill the humans, after all.

Just saw this yesterday. My wife and I enjoyed it thoroughly. If you have doubts about the end-game, go see the movie. It seemed to tie up a lot of loose ends, while leaving specific plot points open for a sequel (or to tie in the other original movies as sequels -- including the ultra-brained humans)

I enjoyed the movie (watched it with my nephews). I actually liked their 'end of man' concept moreso than the original Battle for the Planet of the Apes. Good to see 'Caesar' is the name of the Ape leader as well as another rendition of 'Get your hands off me, you damn dirty ape.'

What I needed a suspension of disbelief on is where to all the apes come from. The Primate House where Caesar and the other apes start can only have about 100 apes, maybe less (though they didn't show a real total), and those released from the local zoo. Still that might be around 100 apes. Those apes attacking the city leaping from building to building, then the bridge scene seems like a lot more apes than they started with.

If man is wiped out by the ape-enhancing virus, I wonder how long it would take for the numbers of apes presented to create a world run by apes.

Still, I did like the move and the CG effects by Weta were great!
