I'm not sure, but just as a guess, maybe the combination of his innocent charm and strong resemblance to Nale inhibited Sabine from hitting him with the full effect.

Big question is whether he knows anything about Girard. Tarquin hinted he may know something, and if he does, possibly Nale may know what it is too.
