D&D 4E Do you really want Greyhawk and Dragonlance for 4e

If we are to get a new version of either anytime soon, I'm all for making them unique. I'd love to see Greyhawk being all dark and gritty, and Dragonlance being all about epic storytelling.

WotC just needs to do whatever it takes to allow Weiss and Hickman to write another series of books in the setting (if they even want to at this point). I think a good option would be a new novel series and some accompanying dragon articles with some class features, feats or mechanics supporting the novels.

If Weis and Hickman are going to write more books in Dragonlance, what era would that be in? Like many, I'm a sucker for a pod Raistlin book and I enjoyed Dragons of the Hourglass Mage. There were a couple of years between when the War ended and when he went back in time, leaves some good space for writing. Were any books ever written about Dalamar's apprenticeship?

i used to read the Dragonlance novels... I got really tired though of every book seeming to be about the heroes of the lance, or their kids.

Didn't ANYONE else do anything on Krynn? :p

As far as novels, W&H can write about whatever they choose, in my opinion. For gaming, I think that the Age of Dreams (Second Age) would be excellent to explore, especially in the second and third dragon wars. There also isn't as much canon from this era to contend with.

There are lots of books about others. Soth, the Kinslayer Wars etc...

Yeah- mostly that was a joke, but I'd say a large portion possibly the majority (it's been a while since I read them) are about the Heroes or their kids (or someone interacting in some way with the heroes or their kids.)

It was enough that I just got bored of it.

I've been wanting to read the Chronicles again sometime since it's been like 15 years since I read them last. Wonder if they'll live up to my memory or seem juvenile now...

The Chronicles and the Twins Trilogy is where I always stopped.

I read through all the Weiss and Hickman books over the last year or so (at age 28) and I have to say they held up well enough. Some parts are a little campy, and some are over dramatic, but I always liked DL for the immerse setting more than the character development. If I wanted to read into the human condition and the analysis of the psyche, I wouldn't read a fantasy book. The nostalgia definitely helped pull me through some of the weaker aspects of the writing, but overall I still enjoyed the stories as much as when I was 12.
