D&D 4E iTunes Store Apps for D&D4e

Hey- I'm using an iTouch as well, but I'm just using the standard Notes app for my PCs. No problems so far.

Still, this thread deeply intrigues me! Good ideas!

I can tell you that the i4e app has really taken off at my table. Out of 6 of us, only two continue to use paper character sheets...and that's only because they're both too cheap to buy new phones or an iTouch (one has an ipod mini, but we can't get him to upgrade....though my 3 year old daughter offered to share hers for a Toy Story 3 Bullseye doll.)

I love the idea of not wasting 3-4 sheets of paper every few weeks; forgetting to print off the leveled version; forgetting the new magic item you had; showing up to the table and forgetting the printed off sheet, so you have to print off from the host's computer.. (heck, I'm just glad we get digital versions, because back in the day of "I forgot my character sheet....It'll take me 30 minutes to an hour to recreate, or 20 minutes to drive home....sucked)

We have a few guys who have managed to do that more than once.

In fact, we had 2 last session...though considering it really looked like we were going to play Settlers of Catan, it's not entirely their fault (even though everyone else has their PCs...). Fortunately, I was hosting, so one guy was able to tie into our wifi and view his while the other guy used my computer, which is on a desk adjacent to our gaming table. (FWIW, it doesn't usually get used for gaming.)

I hate HATE when that happens. I was never a good student, but I always make sure my character is sheet is properly ready before a game. :D

Being part of a D&D group is like being in a high school classroom. Everybody forgets their homework, speaks out of turn and when their turn comes to speak up it takes them forever to figure out what to say and so they look down at their badly organized notes and mumble their actions. :P

Joking condescension aside, I'm scheduled to run a game next week so I'll probably use the PDF viewer to manage a fully statted out NPC, and use .txt files to view my notes and photo viewer to set some images. Nothing proprietary to the use of an iTouch, but at least I won't have a laptop screen blocking me from the players.

I would love it if the online character builder (even though I don't like it that much on my compute screen) could be accessed from an iPad. I think touchscreen would make the interface vastly more tolerable.

ourchair - the i4e does allow you to manually input all data, as well, so you don't have to rely on using the CB for import. They even make the interface nice by allowing you to access it on a PC/laptop and then push it to the phone/pod. It's a nice feature.

That's awesome.

Will definitely try it out then when I get the chance.

I use the Compendium app all the time. Seems to work fine for me, if a bit on the slow side.

I've also used iPlay4e, the website, for character tracking at the table via laptop. Works pretty well, but you have to remember your magic item powers as those don't seem to transfer from the CB file.

I haven't used a native app for character tracking on an iPhone as of yet. Seems like the screen would be too small for that, but what do I know. I thought the iPhone screen was too small for reading ENWorld... and then I got Tapatalk.

I think you've sold me on i4e.

I have never gotten the Compendium app to work worth a damn. Does it for anyone else?

That's what sold me on i4e, as well. It was nice to add custom created items and powers given by the DM without a lot of fuss. Single-handedly ended my entire group's need for customizing the CB.

The compendium app seems to work ok for me, I haven't had much trouble with it. However, as a counter-point, the updated page for WotC's compendium is VERY nice on an iPhone, so it's just as easy to link and use it.
