The clone wars era as described in the Thrawn trilogy sounds far more interesting than what we actually got out of the prequel material.
I think I hate Lucas most of all for spoiling the mystery of the Clone Wars. It was a throwaway line in Star Wars, just an offhand remark, but it was such a wonderfully cool thing to imagine just what, exactly, the Clone Wars were... I much preferred my youthful imaginings of a secret underground lab housing dozens, if not hundreds of cryo-tubes (similar in appearance to the bacta tank from ESB) filled with cloned Jedi who were created so their powers could be twisted, corrupted to the Dark Side (because clones have to be evil, damn it!), and that's what led to the near extinction of the Jedi Order: Jedi fighting evil clones of themselves. Because what else but another Jedi, a Dark Jedi, could kill a Jedi?
Seeing Jedi - Jedi Knights and Masters, anyway - being taken out by Clone Troopers, the progenitors of the grossly inept Stormtroopers, was even lamer and more embarrassing than Boba Fett going out like a punk as part of some stupid slapstick-y gag.
Some things truly are better left to the imagination.

Just finishing up "War and Peace" - I have about 50 pages to go, and should get it finished this Friday. Certainly not my favourite book of all time, but it was enjoyable enough I guess.
Next up is "Books of the South", the second collection of "Black Company" novels, by Glen Cook. And then "The Gathering Storm".
RPG-wise, I'm about halfway through "Black Crusade", by Fantasy Flight. It's a very well-presented and functional RPG, but... I'm just not getting the sense that it's about anything more than super-powered badasses causing carnage. I'm hoping the later chapters really bring out the notion of gradually selling your soul for power, which for me the most interesting part of the game.
(Incidentally, I really like the enhancements they've made to the WFRP system - it has been vastly improved over Green Ronin's second edition. They should totally do a WFRP 3e using this system.

Next up is the third part of the "Jade Regent" Adventure Path for Pathfinder (which, sadly, just hasn't grabbed me like I thought it would), and then the "Advanced Player's Guide".

There's a lot to the ending, a lot of different stuff happening to different characters, so unless he was both very thorough and you patiently read it all, there might still be some surprises for you.

Heh, I recall thinking the same thing at that point. Nope, gotta wait for Winds of Winter for more. Hopefully it's not too long this time....
