Your ideal D&D movie/TV show?

I once thought Dragons of Autumn Twilight would make a great D&D movie ... until they made it, and now I can't unsee it.

Maybe one of Paul Kemp's novel adaptations of a classic D&D module would work.

I'd love to see a decent attempt at Dragonlance, not the pathetic bad CGI/mediocre animation that was put out.

My brother and I have been mulling over a pitch called The Crystal Latticethat would have been a sort of Lost-meets-Lord of the Rings-meets A-Team/Mission Impossible (the movie versions) sort of series. (One of our more brilliant ideas, I thought, was that the Illusionist character would be played by a guest star each week - thus constantly changing his/her appearance).

As was mentioned in my thread on 5th Edition, I would place a series in Eberron and feature a strong female lead who was a heavy infantry-type fighter. She would be a human Brelander and veteran of the war.

The party would almost certainly include a half-orc druid to serve as spiritual guidance and healer, and there would have to be a changeling who is either a member of the party or their most important ally. A changeling could in fact be an amazing character that allowed a bunch of guest stars to all take on a different aspect of the same character. One should probably have a dragonmark, though in some ways it might be more interesting if it was an aberrant mark and kept under wraps. Hell, it might be really interesting to have a dragonmarked heir AND an aberrant dragonmark character.

Each season should have an overarching plot, with the initial season perhaps having four or five " chapters " while if it was succesful later seasons might feature a single season long " chapter " (where a chapter encompasses an adventure or the equivalent). Adventures might have different tones, with some focusing more on investigation, and others on adventure. I think it would be interesting to having a narrator that has taken lessons from classic noir, Desperate Housewives and Gossip Girl.

The Emerald Claw and the Aurum (especially given this day and age) would be major villainous organizations, with dragonmarked houses and various nations sometimes playing the bad guys. A confrontation with the Lord of Blades would probably be a major mid-series event, with the whole series building towards a final showdown with one of the Lords of Dust.

Avatar the Last Airbender. The cartoon. I could stand something like that with the overarching story goal that is achieved in little increments. But of course in a D&D setting.

I'd like to see an actual series about gamers playing a pen and paper RPG. So there lives around the table and their characters in the world.

I would really like to see Rappan Athuk the serial !!

Following a group of adventurers for 1D6 episodes before they meet an horrible death, and the next episode following a new group of adventurers ... rinse repeat ...

I'm sure you can do 3 or 4 seasons of this before getting bored :D

To be honest, I don't feel that the D&D rules really lend themselves well to a show - too many of the game's conventions work for a game, but wouldn't make a lot of sense to anyone who's not already a fan of the game. Yet if you leave out those conventions, then all we have is yet another fantasy movie/series using the D&D name for marketing.
Agreed.

I'd rather get a few good writers together, even if none of them have played D&D, have them write a good script with a few nods to D&Disms, shoot it with good actors and good production, and then slap on the D&D label. This is much preferable to having yet another shudder-worthy D&D B film.

Or go for game culture comedy, like the Dorkness Rising. A D&D cartoon series, in the style of Family Guy or South Park could be hilarious -- maybe Rich Burlew could get in on the action.
