D&D 5E My D&D Next Experience at DDXP

I do want to point out that the D&D XP playtest was done with PreGen PCs so your options for the Race X, Class Y and Theme Z where locked in by whomever created them.

We are only seeing a thin slice of the character creation pie and it is all pre-baked.

I want to see what the options there are for those three aspects before I thumbs up or down a class.

My two coppers,

That's interesting.

I would like to hear more about people who only played 3E or 4E and see what they think about it.

So far most testers around here know D&D since 1E or 2E...

What do you want a thief to do if not sneak around and be all backstabby, lockpicky and so forth?

If you're not doing those things you're not playing that class, you're playing a fighter who insists on wearing leather armor and soft boots! :D

So, [speculation] Clerics have to choose between casting healing spells or being a contributor to the fight? [/speculation] If that's the case, yeah, that's something from older editions that doesn't need to come back again. (I expect no confirmation or denile here, of course).

I think I know what you are referring to, and our group really disliked it. I think it will be unpopular, and hopefully will get feedbacked out.

LoL, thanks for all the information guys, but this exchange is maddeningly vague. I'm feeling terribly impatient to see the rules all of a sudden. :)

Nah, [more spec] They can't use edged weapons [/spec]

There's no such thing as FIGHTER using leather armor and soft boots.

You must be referring to that sissy Rogues, or Rouges... you thieves are all the same. I never know.

That can't be it. Why would that be something even worth noting?

Not to mention, we don't need to speculate that. Monte mentioned in a seminar that clerics are old-school armor-wearing, mace-wielding, undead turners.

Thanks for sharing!

All I can say is that going public with an early draft and asking for feedback is a good thing. It's perfectly fine if there are problems. If more than 10% of this early draft make it into the final print, they didn't playtest enough.

...

Wait a sec. We're on the Interwebs. I'm talking too much sense here. OMG DMing confirmed for 5E *happydance*

...

Ah. Much better. Let me guess for the Cleric: They had to prepare healing spells in advance, which didn't leave them enough space to do their other cool stuff.

I kind of expected this: you roll back the rules to an earlier version, than you discover why it sucked back then, then you understand why the next edition implemented a particular fix, and you're back where you started, with additional insight. Pretty sure we'll see this again.

(Edit: ninja'd. Doh!)
