D&D 5E The cover of the 5E PHB: What I'd like to see

This is closer to what I'd like to see.
"Simple" and effective, I love it. Send it to the printers.

Two or three rag tag adventurers standing in front of an opened treasure chest in a dungeon, their overjoyed faces lit up by the reflection of the gold. Unbeknownst to them, the owner of the treasure, a red dragon, is standing right behind them and does not look too happy.

How the scenario plays out is up to the imagination!

If the books are arrange with the PHB in the center, the DMG on the right and the MM below it forms one continuous picture.

I was just about to suggest that! But I did read all the posts first. :)

Anyway, I like it for a truly epic picture, that can have multiple things going on. Even better, do the same thing with the back covers, and as suggested earlier, have this scene not going nearly so well.

Actually, I think having too many things going on is a really bad idea. The covers are supposed to depict scenes, not collages. Insofar as a cover should be a common reference point, if you have a ton going on, then everyone focuses on something different, and a bit of the power of the common reference is lost.

I would like to see a dragonborn sorceress, her voluptuous bosoms glistening under the firelight of her tiefling companion's flaming spiked chain, as they battle a chainsaw-wielding minotaur in front of the ruins of the Statue of Liberty...all drawn in comic book format/style.

Just kidding.

For a moment I felt a great shifting in the cosmos, as if a thousand voices cried out in anger and reality was being torn asunder.

It got better.
