Is this an Improvised weapon? because then you'd take a -4 on attack rolls for being non-proficient.

Is this a club? Then you can stat it as a club.

Is this to be treated as a custom Club? Than homebrew it as a club that can also deal piercing damage in addition to bludgeoning.

Is this made by someone who's proficient in making weapons with a decent Craft (Weaponsmithing)? Then treat it as a light Morningstar, as others have suggested.

So, in part of answering your question, I'd need to know how skilled in crafting the person who made it was, and how skilled in combat the person using it is. If it's in the hands of a Drunken Master, then all good.

I figure this would be your 'exotic weapon' and so id rate it as x3 critical rather than times two, and with 2d4 damage (seems a better fit for the style of weapon) so its gone up a stage in damage dealt

Seems to work alight mechanically that way? And doest seem too far-fetched or op atall for an exotic weapon

For the increased crit multiplier and upped damage I would probably rule that as a 2hd weapon then - or maybe along the lines of the bastard sword in that it is 2hd without the exotic weapon proficiency feat to use it 1hd.

A 1-handed 1d8/2d4 x3 weapon would be martial. It's the same as a battleaxe or warhammer except doing piercing damage if one went this route. It's not worth being called an exotic weapon, even if it was both bludgeoning and piercing 1d8/2d4 x3 1h.

For the nail club, or spiked club if one prefers, a crude version would be 1d6. A well-made but not masterwork version would be 1d8, equivalent to a morningstar.

Normally I would allow 1d6, but in this instance I would have it inflict 1HP to the target, and 2HP to the wielder for the shame of naming a club.

I keed, I keed...I'd go with club damage.

Maybe your right, I was trying to balance it being exotic with it being crude.

At least it should have the option of bludgeoning flat end) and Piercing (Nailed end) That could be a bit useful for bypassing some DR.

You seem to be describing a finished board, with nails. Not well fitted to the hand, nor balanced for swinging.

If that's the case, it's a makeshift weapon, and should be handled accordingly.

If it's a club, it's a D6 of damage, right out of the SRD. If it's more than a club then call it Masterworked and give it a +1 to hit. If it's weighted and spiked, call it whatever you want and bump the damage to a D8. (Same as Mace or Morningstar).
