Help my Fachion stand out

Grimmjow

First Post
Hey guys.
So im playing a Dray Warlord/Fighter hybrid. My charater wields a Fachion made of bone (common to the dark sun setting, which is what we are playing in). My DM told me that if i want to keep this sword (and i do, got permission to use the inherit bonus so i can keep my sword and armor through the gam) i need to make a way so that it stands out. (He is going to take it from me once i get kidnapped to be a gladiator and give it to one of the guys i have to face.) any idea's on how to make it stand out. so far i havnt come up with much and we play tomorrow.

-Thanks!

You could sing this song...

FALCHION (David Bowie's "Fashion")

There's a brand new blade
But I don't know it's name
That people from strange lands
Use again and again
It's big and it's bad
Bringing tension and fear
They use it over there
but we don't use it here

[CHORUS]
Falchion! Strike to the left
Falchion! Strike to the right
Ohhhhh, Falchion!
We are the goon squad
And we're coming to town
Bleed-bleed
Bleed-bleed

Listen to me - don't listen to me
Talk to me - don't talk to me
Fight with me - don't fight with me, no
Bleed-bleed
Bleed-bleed

There's a brand new sound,
But it's not very clear
That people from good homes
Are hearing this year
It's loud and tasteless
And I've heard it before
You hear it while you're killing
On the front lines of war
Ohhhhh chop, Falchion

[CHORUS]

Listen to me - don't listen to me
Talk to me - don't talk to me
Fight with me - don't fight with me, no
Bleed-bleed
Bleed-bleed

Ohhhhh, block,
chop chop chop chop chop chop chop chop
Fa-fa-fa-fa-Falchion
Ohhhhh, block,
chop chop chop chop chop chop chop chop
Fa-fa-fa-fa-Falchion
La-la la la la la la-la

...beyond that, what do you mean? Are you trying to make it look unique? If so, how about a ring pommel with silk scarves through it? Or perhaps a small hole near the blade's tip that makes it whistle as it slices through the air?

Also, since it is bone, it is perfect for having scrimshaw decorations. And given that we're talking DarkSun, if the scrimshaw actually had a nautical theme, that would mark it as EXTREMELY unusual.

-scrimshaw..artwork on the blade..maybe depicting a past hero in your lineage/your people's history/your totem spirit/animal
-maybe the blade has serrated edges to do extra damage..brutal quality..reroll all 1's (and maybe 2's) on damage rolls
-maybe there's a hook on the back of the blade for tripping foes
-maybe its made of dragon bone

ya im trying to make it stand out so my character will have a reason for knowing it is his sword when he sees it in the arena. I really like your whistle idea, along with the painting of the bone. The damage idea would be real cool too. My friends may object but i think i could talk my DM into that. After all the rest of the party will be using magic items and i'm going to be....not using magic items. So being able to re-roll 1s should be that big of a deal when they get the bonus crit damage and the item properties.

If you could make a bladed weapon out of bone, someone would have done so, IHO. I can see making a club out of bone, how do you make a bladed weapon out of bone ?

I'm thinking something like the azec macahuitl, although that usually is made with obsidian. small bone bladed weapons have been made and used, so that should work in a macahuitl-like falchion.

Ancient Aztec Weapon

How about: It has a strange rune on its hilt.... that leaves an exact glowing image on the hand of its most recent wielder... duration of the image can be a up to a week or a month.

An additional image "echo" effect tied to this will be decided by the DM.

Do not get too attatched to equiptment, lol. Careful.

There are certain situations and DMs where you could lose said equiptment. Those kind of players sometimes get devastated or pissy when that happens. Particularly when the equiptment is attached to identity. Would not want your enjoyment to go down.

Think about the character, not what he wields at the time.

Plus, if thats all you will ever wield, it makes loot time less enjoyable. What if you find the Greatsword of Epic Vorpal Doom and Pwnage? Nah, can not have that because it is not a falchion?
