What is Dominion?

It's (albeit slightly) more than that though, because, if it hits, you're giving them a 4 card hand two turns from now as well, in addition to guaranteeing an untarnished silver + 4 cards in your following hand.

Granted it's situational, but I'd still say it's far from the worst card.

You are double counting - they have a five card hand on the turn after you play the bureaucrat as that victory card as they drew five cards normally and putting the victory card back doesn't actually cost them anything. The turn they have five cards in hand is the four card turn for practical purposes (unless they were planning to trash the estate).

The main game is fine by itself. However, if you get an expansion and taste the cherry-on-top that is more varied play, you will feel compelled to acquire more expansions... because they are there!

They have an on line version of the game that is pretty fun. It is a great way to play a lot in a short period and really get to see a lot of different card and card combinations in action.

Unfortunately the good online version (Isotropic) is being shut down in two days. The new, buggy, micro-transaction fueled, pay to play version (goko) is up and running however...

I don't fault them for making money either, I can however fault the choices made as to how they make money. As a closet developer, I'm not a fan of Zynga-esque business practices, and look forward to the day when they've been outed and replaced with something that I consider more ethical. Goko bought up a TON of IPs and made a ton of promises to make games, and have thus far left a lot of people in the lurch.

A company deserves to make money from a product they own. I question the right for a company to try to make money by buying up a bunch of hot properties, not delivering the products they promised, and hoping that one of the big fish in the pond sees them as a the next Draw Something and gobbles them up before they have to make good on the promises they made.

Beyond that I can pine for the loss of a system that worked, worked well, worked fast, and that met my demands, for one that works infrequently, is slow and bloated with animations, and that meets one of my demands.

I don't know if you tried goko recently, but Dominion runs fine. The game doesn't crash anymore and hasn't for a while, gameplay is still very fast (especially if you speed up the animation). The only "complaints" I have are:
- When you play against bots, they "don't play" if you're in another browser window. It didn't do that before. Even with fast gameplay, sometimes the bots decided to buy every +1 Card / +1 Action cards there are and can go at it for more than a minute. It used to be you could consult another web page while the bot resolved its actions, and now it doesn't seem possible anymore
- It is possible to close the window and not be credited with a loss or an abandon
- Bots are quite predictable sometimes. For one, they'll only end the game if they are sure to win, and will never end a game if they won't win. Also, they seem to have some trouble with some cards.
