Re: Character Builder Officially Unofficially Dead

Maybe this will give the developers the time they need to take some classes so they can learn enough new stuff to enable them to build their new applications in HTML5 instead of Silverlight.
It's almost like there's a huge tech company down the street with a lot of guys with Silverlight experience, eh?

Edit: And the fan-maintained CB has been better, more current, and less buggy for ages.

Fortunately there's also an offline version of the Compendium.

I was really hoping that WotC would offer offline versions of all three of the 4E tools for sale. Considering how crappy the tools were for at least two years, it would be a nice payback for those of us who stuck with 4E to be able to buy the functional versions of the tools before they're turned off.

Otherwise I'll be using the scraped versions with a clear conscience as I've paid for the data many times.

Two or three years back, WotC hired a new head for the D&D software department, a guy with an Italian sounding name (Paolo?). In the first few months until Trevor took over the communication he irregularly appeard on the WotC boards. Does anyone know whether this guy still works at Wizards'?

There's an offline version of the Compendium? Is this one of those you can't tell me because it's pirated and the admins don't allow it moments?

Mhm, considering I renewed my subscription in January for another year, I'm a bit annoyed about this. I was definitely expecting them to continue updating the Character Builder as long as there was new 4e content in Dragon.

If you're familiar with the original British version of House of Cards and the deliciously evil Francis Urquhart you will understand my reply: "You might say that but I couldn't possibly say that." ;)
