Female Gamemasters?

I am sorry that our group ruins your statistic a bit here ;)

on topic:
I know of 2 Female Gamemasters. Both ran "Das Schwarze Auge"

no GM/DM/STs but 2/6 of our D&D group is wimmenz.

Interestingly my previous group was also 2/5 hmmmm... is there a golden ratio of female:male gamers?

Are there any women here who run games? Or, has anyone ever played in a game run by a female GM?

Sure, I've played in a couple of one-shots and one campaign fragment run by a female GM. (That is, the campaign got started, lasted a half-dozen sessions, and then collapsed. The game in question was oWoD Changeling.)

Other than female GMs being rarer (both than male GMs and female players), there's not really any difference, IMX. Some are good, some are bad, gamestyles vary.

There's not much more to say, really. My personal policy is "if you're mad enough to want to run a game, I'm happy to play", and that doesn't change if the GM in question is a woman.

Our not-quite-Meetup group has 36 members, 6 of whom are female. Their levels of involvement vary; some play in campaigns, some only play the occasional one-shot, and at least one has yet to actually join a game.

I don't think there's a 'golden ratio', in any sense of that phrase. As far as I can tell, it's just a matter of demographics.

I'm a female GM who runs a lot of Cthulhu. I've been GMing for the past ten years, both for our regular gaming group and also at GenCon. I've GMed a lot of different games including D&D, and Buffy along with Cthulhu. I'm going to be playtesting a Dread game I created this weekend. I love creating my own adventures. If I get elected for Ennies judge this year, I plan to run several of the nominations.

Now wondering what category I fall into Crothian... But, as I recall, you ran one of the games for your group that I created, I'm going to stay positive. LOL :)

I've run across a few female GMs, though thats probably because there is a university with an active games society where I live.

Also run across alot of female players and one of the lasses in mu current group is looking at running a game at some point.

I have seen similar situations. The women I have gamed with tend to prefer games with less crunch and more character interaction. Games like Burning Wheel, World of Darkness, or the Supernatural game using the cortex system. I think many games like D&D make combat the central experience, which tends to favor men's attitudes toward gaming. Where the women I have gamed with see combat as important, but something that should be resolved quickly and efficiently to allow the entire struggle of completing the goal of the campaign to be the central experience.

May I gently suggest that generalizing from "the gamers I have been around" to "the entire female gender" is a pretty obvious logical fallacy? And particularly obvious to folks whose experiences are quite different in terms of the number of female GMs they know and the types of games those GMs run?

Your point is correct, but I didn't think I generalized. I said this was only from my experiences and the women I have gamed with. I didn't suggest that all women game this way, I know better and have met female gamers who want different style games. But I have not had a chance to play with them, only the ones who prefer less crunch and more character interaction.
