[Adventure]: Shards of Eldanarth (DM: MadAzolin, Judge: ??)

@dimsdale: [sblock="ooc, spending encounter powers during short rest(s)"]
Spending any encounter power does prevent you from recharging that encounter power until the next short rest (and as party is getting one short rest per encounter, that in effect does mean you cannot recharge them until after next encounter).
In effect, that means you cannot recharge healing word before next encounter if you use it now. However, if you have any encounter powers you did not spend during the encounter (perhaps healer's mercy), you can spend then now and recharge then normally.

OOC: @MadAzolin Thank you for the clarification. Lerrick uses the healer's Mercy but doesn't use the Healer's Words. You can ask Lerrick for a healing potion if you'd like

Lerrick rests with her back against a tree after healing all that required aid. She remains silent as others try to figure out why the owlbears attacked, peering into the forest from where the fey beast came from, but can find nothing, obviously due to being exhausted from having spent a majority of her healing powers

OOC: Martelai remains at 62/68 then, still spends only two surges, just doesn't "fill up".

"Yes, yes, as I said, probably nothing." as he follows the group.

Kane remains quiet and alert as they continue along their journey through the strange lands.

[sblock=OOC] Kane ended the fight on 44 HPs; he spends a surge to take himself to 60 HPs.
4 surges left.

Jade goes back to full HPs at end of short rest.[/sblock]

OOC: I pass Nature and Perception automatically. I'm only 5hp down, spend the surge or not?! To surge or not to surge, that is the question.

Cyr spends one surge to get back to full.

"I think these were just wild animals lairing in the ruins. It's our bad luck that we appeared as we did, but it may signify that there aren't any other humanoids around."

"Those of you at the sharp end of this affair may be happy to know that I have a ritual that can spread some of our lifeforce about," says Lilli, observing Kane as he takes a breather.

OOC: In short, the ritual Comrades' Succor is available when the time comes.

Following the road, party comes to small clearing surrounded by massive trees. Small birds similar to strange owls sit on branches well above the ground and hoot softly and wind whistles through the canopy, its sound akin to whispering of strange voices. However, thing far more noticeable is strange humanoid sitting on branch some 20' above the ground. Creature seems to not have been there just moments ago and it observes party obviously without fear.
[sblock="strange humanoid"]
Remiscent of oversized elf, over 8’ tall, massive humanoid is rugged but graceful at same time, lean and muscular. Its eyes shine with eldritch light and it wears cloak of black feathers and pieces of dark leather armor and mask resembling bird of prey. Monster leans on weapon similar to pickaxe or scythe and proudly displays grisly trophies of past hunts fixed to its armor and cloak - skulls of strange beasts and some all-too familar, obviously belonging to humanoids, pieces of jewelry and other trinkets that likely belonged to civilized folk, few daggers, scrolls, strange holy symbols... among these trophies, most grisly looking ones are ornaments wrought of tanned skin that look disturbingly familiar.

[sblock="perception, DC 20"]
Creature is obviously not alone - several other humanoids observe approaching adventurers, they seem to belong to some type of oversized elf-like humanoids. While not trying to make themselves seen, they don't seem to be particularly interested in hiding either. They are armed with various weapons, mainly spears and longbows, while some carry strange totems. Most are cloaked and lightly armored in hides and leather.
[sblock="perception, DC 25"]
Looking carefully, you can count total of 12 creatures, 13 if one who is obviously visible one is counted. They are conveniently arranged into crescent around approaching adventurers, very likely within bow range. Their weapons are not at ready however.

[sblock="insight, DC 20"]
Creature doesn't look hostile - while obviously armed and possibly ready for battle, its stance is relaxed and its weapon is not at ready. it appears curious and observes adventures as one would strange animals or other curiosity. However, creature doesn't appear friendly either and grisly trophies it so proudly displays are troubling sign at best.
[sblock="insight, DC 25"]
You have feeling these creatures look at you in a way you would look at dangerous wild animal. There is certain hungry light in its shining eyes, one you have seen before - excitement in hunter's eyes before the hunt... or before the kill. However, you are quite certain they will not attack, at least not for now. Troubling part is you doubt they perceive any of you as their equal - they more likely look at your party as you would look at pack of wolves or bears

Perception; Insight (1d20+13=26, 1d20+13=25)

With experienced look, the invoker sees through the situation and quickly summarizes it in a whisper:
"Careful, there are twelve hidden ones. But they seem curious. Still, I get a feeling we're more like wild game to them then someone to talk to. Don't do anything hostile. Martelai, maybe you could persuade them that we're worthy guests, not hunting trophies?"

Kane groans. His body had been sorely tested by the owl bears, and now they had run into a party of giant hunters. He was beginning to strongly dislike this place. He searched his memories for knowledge of what these giant elves might be.

Nature 16

That is exactly the sense that I'm getting Cyr.

OOC: Perception and insight rolls respectively: 23, 25
