I'm loving this game!

I'd say 90% of the reason I love DCC is because by DM is great. He runs the kind of game I always wanted to play. I think it's because he reads Knights of the Dinner Table.* :)

But I also really like the magic system. The randomness of spells is fun, making every spellcasting exciting and nerve-wracking. And the limited selection of spells is good in my book, because it makes running a spellcaster much easier. I also like the flavor and story opportunities of the magical corruption systems.

Combat is also fast- although I love 3.5 and 4e, all the different powers and abilities players have can make for slower combats, as players decide what to do, and then resolve it. Most of the time I like that, because interesting tactical combat is an enjoyable part of D&D for me, but sometimes I just want simple combat, so a greater proportion of the game session can be dungeon exploration.

I can tell you what I like.

It covers most situations simply. It's use of randomness as a balancing tool is genius and fun. It's easily played as a theatre of the mind game (I think this was the intention) however I was surprised to find that there is enough there to throw down with miniatures, I have a couple players that enjoy them, and it worked well that way. It makes no bones about it being potentially deadly, the character funnel makes it clear. I've run eight players through a funnel and had a blast with quite a few combats and roleplaying events in just a few hours, that's 32 characters.

Also it really fits my kind of fantasy game. I won't say sword and sorcery really, because it's a deadly game, these characters are no conan. It's more like they are all the other characters from the conan stories. Stories minus the conan. That doesn't mean they don't get their triumphs in the game. The fighters can and do kick some but.

Btw the deed die really encourages fighters to come up with wild and cool stuff to try. Much like the advantage die mechanic in the earliest Next playtests did.

Fun.

Just wanted to say, anyone who hasn't yet should definitely get the Crawler Companion app from Purple Sorcerer Games available for OS and Android. I have it on my phone and tablet and it's great, no need to look up the crit tables or the spell results and it even has a dice roller that can handle all the funky dice in a pinch... Best of all it's absolutely free. You can find it out more about it at the link below under DCC tools... Oh and they also have a o level party generator and a random character generator on the site as well.

I've heard extremely good things about this game.

But the funny dice throw me off.

I know that sounds silly, but I, and all my players, have heavy attachment to our dice. They, more than anything else, have remained consistent with us for 30 years of playing D&D, regardless of edition or variation.

I don't own any of the funky dice. It has not been a problem. I may buy them some day but the 7 and 5 and 3 designs to date i don't like. I think the game is worth it.
