What's next after Zombies?

I was considering this just recently. I've come to the opinion that much of what makes the book series good is the internal dialog (well, monologue, I guess) of the main character. That's not something that is frequently (or ever?) done well on screen. Representing the events of the books in normal third-person perspective would lose so much in the translation, that I'm not sure I'd want them to bother.

Ah Dresden Files.... I liked the show. I like the books.

Jim Butcher spoke at a book signing I was at about the "why it got canceled" and the core factors were:
SciFi sold the wrong ad slots for "men's stuff" when the demographic was 30-40 year old women that were watching it

And, the president of SciFi was jealous of the VP who sponsored Dresden Files and cut it to make room for Wrestling. Basically, the VP's shows were doing better than the president's. It sounds like they had some kind of show sponsorship thing, where different VP's etc sponsored shows that got made.

In thinking on a few other shows that have had weird things happen with them, it has become pretty clear to me that, at least in the past, there has probably been some odd politics in the background at SciFi, so I'm not too surprised to hear this.

Yeah that's what i have heard regarding a lot of the canceled shows from siffy is politics going on sadly according to tvtropes when it comes to network decay the channel is considered to be in "Total Abandonment" status.

While zombies are cool, I am not looking forward to a literary equivalent to the Battle of Yonkers*.

*If you don't know what the Battle of Yonkers is, and are reading this thread, shame upon you! Go pick up a copy of Max Brooks' World War Z.

No, not the movie. The movie is crap, and just stole the book's name hoping we wouldn't notice. Go read the book. It is a completely different beast.

Well, I'm not advocating more zombies, I just mean, when have there ever been just a few zombies? There always seem to be more ...

The Zombie craze of the last years is stagnant or even on a downturn, since about one year we are seeing a host of Cthulhu/Lovecraftian products coming out, with some great products and some where the authors just seemed to have slapped on the Mythos on an abritary game mechanic to cash in. But hey, whatever floats your Shoggoth!

Given the fact that the wider population isn't aware of game mechanics I don't see the Mythos becoming a big craze like Zombies unless there's a tv show and or series or films that also comes out and becomes popular. It may become a craze in the gaming world, but that's about it.

Examples, please!!! Not nit-picking this time: I just want to know what to look for.
I know about the radio plays, solstice carols, and "A Shoggoth on the Roof" as well as the movies all made by cthulhulives.org. I was wondering what else there was. Oh, and the Nox Arcana mood-music CD...

There have been more than a few Mythos-connectd movies, and near as I can tell, their percentage of the horror market has been increasing.

However, they're gaining ground at a very slow rate. If Mythos horror ever does reach "fad" status like zombies or vampires, it will be a decade+ down the road.
