GotG Could become franchise

http://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/scifi/guardians-galaxy-spawn-sequels-disney-ceo.html

This August 1st, we’re looking forward to introducing the world to more fantastic Marvel storytelling, with a great cast of new characters in Guardians of the Galaxy, which we screened last week and we believe it has strong franchise potential.....

....That’s a whole other Marvel realm or universe in terms of where it takes place, the characters that populate it and the stories that you can tell for those characters. So, I think, I’m not going to predict that we’ve got another Avengers on our hands, but that’s certainly the goal.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Could Spawn Sequels,

Obviously. It's a film.

The correct thread title is "GotG is a film".

You have a PM you need to reply to, by the way.

yeah. some hollywierd hype about the movie that "could spawn sequels" does not mean it's going to score that well at the box office.

Personally, I'd never heard of Guardians of the Galaxy until somebody was talking about the end scene from the Avengers film. And I've read Marvel for a few decades.

And while I didn't think much of the idea for an Iron Man movie, I don't see anywhere nearly the potential for GotG compared to Iron Man or other Marvel big names.

It will probably turn out that GotG does well enough at the box office. Marvel is on a roll with their films, such that people will see them because it's Marvel.

From the trailers, GotG has less of a classic superhero film feel and more of a sci-fi feel.

It looks more like Firefly and Star Wars, than Iron Man or even Thor (another alien). That could mean another franchise that won't add to the superhero fatigue.

Umm... Ally is dating Harrison Ford. Ford was in Star Wars and Indiana Jones. GotG looks like Star Wars and there is a scene similar to Indiana Jones in the trailer. Obviously, GotG will be a success!

Yup. And it looks more funnier, too. Different vibe than your standard superhero fare. Takes itself less seriously. Like, I couldn't be bothered with Iron Man or Cap or Thor or The Avengers but I may actually go see this. That's not to crap on those movies and their sequels - I mean, I caught 'em on Blu Ray or cable - but it's just kinda tiring to see the same sort of stuff over and over again.

It has a raccoon...with a gun! I personally think it may be a sleeper, those that predict these things think it will make about what the first Thor did.

From Box Office Mojo:
Guardians of the Galaxy (August 1): This is the first original Marvel Cinematic Universe movie since Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011, and is probably the riskiest of any of the MCU movies so far. The eclectic band of characters has no cultural cache yet, and there's no clear tie-in with the rest of the universe. The attention-grabbing first trailer directly addressed this issue by spending an inordinate amount of time introducing each member, including a gun-toting raccoon and a human man who goes by Star Lord (played by Chris Pratt). There's a possibility that Guardians winds up being this Summer's Pacific Rim—the online hype outweighing general interest—though we're betting it winds up on par with the original Thor. (Domestic: $180 million, Foreign: $250 million)

Yeah, there is a huge stage to have spin-offs.

The Nova Corps, and Quasar for starters, which would solidly tie it back into the whole superhero thing. Not to mention the Avengers and Captain Mar-Vell.
The Eternals would be a good series for a high-end cable series.
The Annihilation Wave would be an awesome thing to use, if it's not tied to FF through Annihilus.
Marvel Boy! And it could serve as a springboard for a Young Avengers movie, which would be amazingly awesome.
