D&D 5E Starter Set: Phandalin Map

They've gotten a lot better at maps lately, not just the art, which is very nice, but also in the things it includes.

And yet an extra "L" snuck in there anyway. Gentle ribbing. Sorry to steal your thunder. I'm sure the two threads shall become one soon enough.

All-in-all, it isn't terribly remarkable, IMO. Beautiful, sure, but nothing that ignites my imagination.

My imagination fills with questions, starting with:
1) The city wall is more remnant than defense, yet people still live in Phandalin. What's the attraction? Aren't the Realms more dangerous than that? Is the town occupied because of nearness to the mines?
2) Why is this village (not even a proper town) so far from the nearby stream? Is the stream un-navigable? Does it flood?
3) The village has no church or temple, but only a Shrine of Luck -- in 4E, that would have been Avandra; who is the 5E god of Luck?
4) The coster has a building? I though costers sell fruits & vegetables out of a barrow in the street. Is the Lionshield more successful than one would expect of a coster?
5) "Sleeping Giant" is what? Barracks? Library? Brothel? Will we have to wait until July to find out?
6) "Tresendar Manor" is collapsed. Who runs the local guard or militia now?

In FR, that would be Tymora.

5) "Sleeping Giant" is what? Barracks? Library? Brothel?

If I recall correctly, there was a Sleeping Giant Inn in the Keep on the Borderlands (or the 4e remake, Keep on the Chaos Scar). It's the expensive inn that 1st level characters can't afford yet.

I like it, but don't really care for the arrows. Would've have preferred numbers and a legend.

I really prefer the arrows and naming. Not as pretty but easier to see what is what.

I like the arrows and names.

When it is numbers and a legend, I have to add the names and arrows after printing off a copy of that page so I don't mark up the original.

Do houses in the FR sport in-house wells regularly? With only a tiny stream in the neighbourhood and without a real trail to it, and without visible reservoirs, there has to be some other sort of water supply. I'm also missing a mill.

Graphically, the map looks quite nice and it isn't worse than other maps.
