Pre-ordered through DMG. If the hackability lives up to the promises, it will be the start of a long thing. :)

If not, I'll just get my money's worth out of reading them.

I'll look at the books when they are out and then choose. They'll have to knock my socks off to cause a purchase though :)

Agree with this. I will definitely give basic a go as a beer and pretzel game but I will have to see more of the game to see how modularity has been cashed out to enable the kind of depth that 4th ed has for a long running/serious campaign.

Most likely, I am not buying it. At this point, I wish they had just stuck with Pre-Essentials 4e and came out with an Unearthed Arcana with optional rules that addressed most of my issues.

The only thing that might change my mind about 5e is the DMG and the options presented. Even then, I will have to decide if I want to house rule another edition of 5e before purchasing it.

No, but that is because 1) they are giving away the Basic set for free and 2) they haven't announced support/adventures for Greyhawk. The former appears to be exactly what I am looking for in D&D while the latter is my preferred setting. I'll buy if/when they produce products for Greyhawk.

Pre-order the Player's Handbook, the DM Guide and the Monster Manual, which may be all I get for 5E, IF WotC starts re-publish material, don't need another copy of Forgotten Realms, or the Underdark, or Waterdeep, etc. Now IF they go with some other direction, may get back into it.

Yep. PHB and (after the unboxing video) Starter Set.

I'm still deeply skeptical it will ever be my D&D of choice, but it's the new edition and I want to at least be educated about it if I'm talking about it online.

Who knows what we will do after Zeitgeist or for a one shot?

It's also absolutely what I'd recommend to any brand new players getting into rpgs for the first time. It's the most newbie friendly edition since red box, near as I can tell.

I felt like I got burned with 4E, and the playtest didn't much appeal so I'm waiting to review this at a bookstore before I decide to buy in.

Strangely, of late I haven't found myself much enthused to play ANY RPG's - since my last Pathfinder group broke up I've been playing more and more infrequently, having gone from once a week to once every few months now.

Waiting on the PDFs. No PDFs, no buying.

On this topic, did anyone else notice that this week's DnD Classics New Releases article on the WotC web site did not list any releases for next week? Usually both the current week's releases and next week's releases are covered in that article.

However, when Scourge of the Sword Coast and Dead in Thay were released as PDFs, those were the only releases for that week, and the previous week's news article either listed no releases for the next week (see this article from the week before SotSC) or only listed the new release (see this article from the week before DiT).

All of this makes me wonder if we aren't going to see a 5e PDF release (Basic D&D? Starter Set?) next week.

Yes, of course. It just wouldn't feel right to not have the latest edition of D&D. Also, from what I've seen so far it looks like the best game since at least 2E.
