I was not aware of this.

Because WotC has not said anything about releasing the MM or DMG early. We only have confirmed the starter set and the PHB for early release at WPN retailers. One could make the case that the remaining core rule books will or will not be released early.

I wasn't aware of PHB, either. All I'd seen was the starter set. Guess I missed something somewhere!

The last I heard, the PHB will be available at GenCon (14-17 Aug), so that's several days at least before the 19 Aug street date listed on the image.

Yeah, I knew the Gen Con bit. Just not the WPN retailers thing, aside from the starter set.

Wizards announced it at the ACD Open House that all of the D&D releases from them would have an 11 day early relase to their Core level stores (12 days for the Starter). I'm pretty sure I posted that here earlier.

Heh. Totally missed that!

Right, 11 days, not 12. Thanks Thalmin, I knew I heard it somewhere, couldn't remember exactly where.

Sadly, the WPN status of my Sydney FLGS means nothing, as they won't have it until the 15th, but if all goes well, I will catch the train in on my lunch break and collect my pre-order as an on-my-birthday-also-release-day birthday present to myself.

If you've been on this forum every day, then I'm surprised that you haven't seen the link on every page called "Breaking News! CLICK HERE for full details on the D&D NEXT RELEASE SCHEDULE!", the discussions about the release dates, or the infographic Russ posted on the front page. Obviously, it's not impossible - I'm certainly not calling you a liar! - but you must have been very unlucky to miss that information here.

For a gaming retailer to not know the release date of the latest edition of the first and biggest RPG is quite astonishing. It's like a Porsche dealership not knowing when the latest 911 is coming out.
I said I had a vague idea of when they came out. The dates have changed a few times and so I know that the books on their way - in the next few months they'll be out but the exact details eluded my memory. Even after looking at that image I probably didn't retain the info except for July 3 (when I can hopefully get the Basic pdf). Like I said, it isn't my job so I'm not super interested in the Starter Set and so knowing that info doesn't really enrich my life.

As for the porche dealers - I think it is more like not knowing when the new floormats are coming out. At this point DnD isn't selling well at most LGS (as far as I can tell) with their sales being; 1. non-existent in the past 2 years, 2. being poor in the years preceeding those 2, 3. being outsold by Pathfinder and a couple other RPGs. So, while 5e might make them some good money it may not be the end of the world if they don't have all the details on the topic. Beyond that, it seems like not just the Jester had problems with their FLGS not having the info so it may not be isolated to this one store.

And, I almost didn't add this part, "Breaking News! CLICK HERE for full details on the D&D NEXT RELEASE SCHEDULE!" isn't a thread on THIS forum. It is on this site, I have read pieces of it, but it isn't a thread I regularily read or contribute to on this specific Board (DnD and Pathfinder). So, having to go looking for it is fine but I could do that on WotC's site too or anywhere else. I'm here and reading threads but most threads don't talk about the specific dates and so those dates haven't stuck in my mind. I recall (I believe it was) BlackWarder saying how he was right on the predicted release dates when they were first announced, but otherwise it isn't anything I retained - announced a few months ago the game still seemed a long way off, it isn't so much now half-way through summer.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that I've gone in to talk to them several times, and each time I've gotten the "I don't know anything about that" treatment with a side of "I'll mention it to my boss". I've talked to the boss lady once before, a few month ago, and expressed my interest in the new stuff, and even mentioned the "I can get it early if you guys are a part of the WPN or I can get it cheaper via Amazon if you're not". At the time, the guys working in the store mentioned that a bunch of other people had inquired about it, too. So they've had plenty of time to figure out what's up, as well as plenty of motivation to do so (in the name of selling product).

So when I called the other day and got a double helping of ignorance after repeatedly asking about it- and after (word on the street is) other people have asked, too- I can't come to any conclusion other than that they have chosen to remain ign'int about it.

EDIT: They host Wizards events, but can't even tell me if they're a part of the WPN... I mean, come on, guys, at least know what you're doing in your own store!

*shrugs* That's fine. I was just curious what upgraded it. Still sounds like basic ignorance to me. But I can understand why you might be offended by their lack of follow-through.
