D&D 5E New L&L is up

Pardon my ignorance, but are any of the 2nd level wizard spells from the Evocation school?
No direct damage spells on 2nd level "again"?

Yeah, 30+ years later, and 2nd level still feels like a bit of a dud for magic-user/wizard spells. You'd think they could've thrown a scorching ray or sound burst in there, or Melf's acid arrow! (I love me the the "name" spells.)

Good catch. The difference, this time around, is that Burning Hands and Magic Missile should both be spells you can cast from 2nd lvl slots for improved damage, which makes a dead spell level much less of an issue.

Excellent point.

This is the eternal peril of Mike whenever he's asked to talk about things (whether at cons, interviews, articles or whatnot)... things always are changing, so he can never be sure if the document he has in front of himself to ruse as a reminder is in fact the most current version of that document.

He probably wrote his article using a list he (or someone else) had written up as what they expected to include in the Basic set (or perhaps even wrote it off the top of his head), and forgot about the other spells that were included in the Starter Set (since those spells were probably selected and solidified a month or so ago before the game went to print.) Only now when people tweet him or Trevor about these things does he remember that yeah, those were to be included too.

After all... for all we know many of these L&L articles get written by him at like 4:50pm on the Friday as he's about to rush out the door, having been so busy working throughout the week that he forgot to write it. So he tears it off quickly and forgets a thing here or there. But kudos to the crew for updating the chart on the site once the oversight was noticed.

Let's see... there's 7 races (including sub-races), 5 backgrounds, 4 classes. That IS 140 combinations. Though from the pregens there are two human fighters, 1 archer, 1 axeman, so it sounds like fighter at least has... what do you think? At least 2, let's call it 3 Fighting styles. So that's 70 more. You could probably do a light-armoured cleric, though probably not worthwhile with the dwarf, so another 25.

235? Possible combinations (some of them not very good, excluding wizard spell selection differences)?

Anyone want to take a stab at what the worst combo of race, class & background would probably be?

Might be fun to play it!

Edit: Lightfoot Halfling Soldier Wizard?

Did any of these make the cut?

101 Spells Not Worth Memorizing

There a number of great parenting ones there. Cone of Bubbles and Power Word, NO! are my favorites.

Bah, Melf's acid arrow is a way cooler spell they could have used, I may have to ragequit now.

Hmm. Acid burns, but I guess it is, in fact, cooler than a sphere of flames. So, yeah, you should probably ragequit. Advice: move your computer before you flip the table.

Thaumaturge.
