Fantastic Four Reboot Movie

I still think saying hey read this and this to get an understanding of Sue Storm would be a good idea or maybe that's just me....

Call me weird, if you like, but I think that if the script is good, it will be sufficient. And if the script is bad, reading the comics won't help.

Consider - how would an actor manage if there *weren't* some prior art? They have to work from the script alone. Therefore, a script alone should do.

Except there is prior art. Like there was a Lord of the Ring before the movies.

More information needed. As it sounds now, don't think much of it, just sounds like the bait and switch, a branded name on something not quite what it is suppose to be.

So? The script can still contain the information required to play a character well.

I'll grant that the scriptwriter needs to be familiar with the prior art. The director needs to be familiar. The actors should be able to get the job done well from those sources, and shouldn't need to refer to the prior art directly.

I think a lot of actors themselves would disagree with that assessment. Not all would, but a lot do quite a bit of independent research for major characters in order to understand them better.
