Ok, so this is my first attempt at creating a race for 5e in an attempt to convert over a race used for a persistent world chat game in 3.5. This is not an attempt to actually adapt the Feytouched template from 3.5 as somethings with the fey are handled a bit differently on the chat than in standard. The idea was to create a race that allows people to take an appearance they want but without having to be the actual creature in question. I am not certain if this sits on par with the other races or a little under or over the power line. I would like to give them the full Fey Ancestry like the elves have but coupled with the illusion bit I worry that sleep immunity might be too much. Your feedback is appreciated!
Feytouched
I am a creature of the Fey
Prepare to give your soul away
My spell is passion and it is art
My song can bind a human heart
And if you chance to know my face
My hold shall be your last embrace
--Brenna Gwyn, The Faerie Lover
Unique and Varied
The Feytouched do not have a uniform appearance. While some are beautiful to behold others are monstrous. They often carry a feature or two from the parents which makes them a clear relation.
Curse or Blessing?
The Feytouched can be born to any humanoid race. A common belief is that they are a curse placed upon the couple for offending one of the Sidhe and some take it as a sign of infidelity. Many of these poor creatures are killed at birth to hide the shame or given quietly over to orphanages.
Not all take such dark views of these children and love them as they would any other. The people of Rion take the view of these children as a blessing and special gift from a fey who is pleased with them. Rion also according to rumor has the most Feytouched births of anywhere in Criddia.
Everywhere and Nowhere
As they are born to parents of many races they tend to adopt the culture and customs of those who raise them. Many in time find a connection to the fey who live in the area and some even seek out the Seelie and Unseelie Courts to swear allegiance.
Feytouched Traits
Your Feytouched character has a number of inborn abilities that are part of the nature of the race.
Ability Score Increase. You gain a +1 to a stat of your choice other than the one granted by your Subrace.
Age. Feytouched mature at the same rate as humans do and reach adulthood around 20. They live far longer however, often exceeding 200 years.
Alignment. Many lean toward chaos, the freedom of the wild calls to them but some lean toward law, a reflection of the structure of the Courts.
Size. They grow to be similar in size to humans ranging from 5 to 6 feet tall. Your size is Medium
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Darkvision. As a creature of fey nature you have superior vision in dark and dim light conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Gift of the Sidhe. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed. You also immediately may make a saving throw upon seeing/hearing any active Illusion spell or effect to see through it if it allows for a saving throw.
Cold Iron Allergy. While the touch of cold iron does not burn a Feytouched like it does the Sidhe, direct contact with it is uncomfortable. Within seconds of contact with bare skin, the Feytouched will breakout in a painful red rash at the site of the contact which quickly fades once the cold iron is removed. While in direct contact with cold iron the Feytouched has disadvantage on Perception and Insight checks due to the discomfort. Use of a cold iron weapon without wearing gloves or other protection would have disadvantage on attack rolls.
Languages. You can speak, read and write Valish(Common), Sylvan and your National Language if it is other than Valish
Subrace. Choose one of the following subraces
The Bestial
Monstrous in form and reflecting the fury of nature.
Ability Score Increase. Add +2 to Strength, Dexterity or Constitution
Speed. Your base speed increases by 10 feet
The Courtier
Cunning, wise and beguiling. The ways of the Courts are part of you.
Ability Score Increase. Add +2 to Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma
Court Talent. You are proficient in either Deception or Insight
**Special notes on the Feytouched** They can look like anything you want them to but they do not gain any extra abilities based on descriptive appearance. Having horns will not grant you a gore attack nor will wings grant you flight and so on.
