Xmas Special - "Last Christmas" [spoilers]

Well, that was fun

I really liked this episode. In fact, I'd say it's my favourite Xmas Special so far. Had my doubts about including Santa, but him being a dream construct worked perfectly for me. Loved the unapologetic nods to Alien. Enjoyed Capaldi a lot. Was totally fooled by the old-Clara fakeout. Loved that it was a tight little script, not an epic world-saving romp. Next episode is "The Magician's Apprentice", and Clara's sticking around.

Glad to see Slade's Merry Christmas Everybody (song) featured. For those foreigners out there, that song is pretty much played on repeat all across the country over Xmas, and has been since the 70s.

I agree on all points. After the first five minutes I was ready to turn it off for being too stupid, but was glad I persevered! I thought the touch of inception was good too. Dreams within dreams. Loved the book method of determining whether in a dream or not!

I liked the direct reference to Alien as it recognized the cultural context of what the scary monsters were like (unlike the Walking Dead that doesn't recognize Zombies).

I liked that Santa was played by a guy named Nick Frost, how appropriate.

I liked that Nick Frost was was really the guy from those Sean whatshisname movies, who's name really is Nick Frost.

I liked how well Nick Frost played Santa.

I liked that Santa wasn't the bad guy.

You could tell where they changed the direction of the story once Jenna made up her mind about staying, over all a good episode. Can't wait for next season.

I really liked this episode.

I enjoyed it - nicely layered, just like the dreams. I'd really like to see more of Shona - she was a fun character.

My favourite is still "A Christmas Carol" with Matt Smith, to the extent that I make a point of making it part of my Christmas viewing every year. It does a great job of drawing inspiration from the source material while telling its own tale, and is, I think, still the only Christmas special to actually tell a proper Christmas story, rather than just a story that happens to take place during Christmas.

I like that one a lot, but the flying shark stops me from loving it.
