D&D 5E Princes of the Apocalypse Hits the Shelves!

Picked up my copy today at lunch. Gorgeous book, tons of locations and hooks, interesting monsters (elemental myrmidons!) and what appears to provide very non-linear methods of completing. Haven't had an opportunity to do more than skim thus far, though. Check it out!

Nice to hear and congratulations. Did you buy it at a FLGS? I don't know of any local place in my area that got it today... and thus, I must go through the great Amazon to get mine, but not until April 7th.

Nice! Can't wait to get a copy. I usually get my books from the Book Depository. This time, however, I was planning on getting it from the FLGS, but I've just been told that the dockworker strikes in LA have held up delivery. The stores here won't be getting them until *after* the general release date. So I guess I'll be getting my copy from the Book Depository after all ...

I liked what I've seen of it so far, though, and I'm liking that you can tie it to LMoP. I've been running the Starter Set adventure for my wife and two friends of ours, and they're just exploring Wave Echo Cave now, so by the time I get my hands on PotA, we should be able to go straight into it.

Supposedly there is a short adventure included for 1st level PCs as well so you can get them up to 3rd level and then start out on the main path of the adventure. I think that is very cool.

I also like the idea of using some or all of LMoP as well and then having that branch off to do PotA. It's almost like using B2 Keep on the Borderlands and having that lead to the original T1-4 Temple of Elemental Evil. Reminds me of that anyway.

Yes. They've included the mini adventures in the AL version of PotA. There's some basic stuff, like dealing with a necromancer and some bandits and such, but the coolest bit, which I think I will use for my group even though they'll be 5th level, is the Tomb of Moving Stones.

Yes!

EDIT: Fildrigar says they've also included some tie-ins with a few of the NPCs in Phandalin, which makes it even easier to connect the two together.

Got my copy today. Only had a chance to flip through it and read very limited material, but so far I like the structure better than HotDQ. It's almost like a campaign setting, with a ton of side quests and location descriptions that you can completely avoid or explore, depending on your preference. There definitely is A LOT of gaming time to be had with this. It will take us months to go through, if not an entire year.

I agree. I picked up my copy today. It is quite impressive. I love the level 1-3 pre-quest options and the sidetreks that can be used at other times during the campaign. That's one thing I had to make myself for the campaign I'm running now using Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle. The npc information for the town of Red Larch is nice too, and the monsters created just for this campaign are so full of flavor. The whole campaign kind of feels like a brand new game (especially if people use Genasi or other races from the Free PDF player's companion).

Again, I'm very impressed.

I got my copy after work yesterday and so far have read chapters 1 and 2, plus the adventures in Red Larch. I'm enjoying it quite a lot so far.

The T1-4 influence is clearly there in Red Larch, which is clearly inspired by, but quite different from, Hommlet. It's good work as a wide-open town for the PCs with tons of factional connections and moving parts. I kind of love how different the town is depending on whether or not you run the Tomb of Moving Stones adventure.

The Dessarin Valley is a nice mini-setting, though some of the towns feel cursory after the loving detail given to Red Larch. The picture of the Stone Bridge on page 37 is kinda breathtaking and a great piece of pure fantasy architecture. In reading this, I've realized I should probably go back over some of my old FR material on the North, and also on the religions. It feels almost self-contained but not quite.

Optimistic as I head on to the campaign material proper.
