Relic Hunters in Tekumel (IC)

[section] Briony let out a huff of pent-up exasperation. "I don't think much, apparently. Or I overthink it. Ugh." She took her arm off her face and sat up, looking at Angelina. "Don't mind me. Rolfe. He's the problem. How the hell he can be a problem and not even be here, I don't exactly know. But he is. A problem, that is." Briony picked up her two-handed sword and started oiling it. "This place is all wrong. I think we should head out first thing in the morning. Before the day gets too hot." [/section]

Bella remains quiet through the conversations until this one in the hut.

"This place gives me the willies. Let what's her name do the investigation that way if she's caught we can put her down, I mean plausible deniability right? We hit the temple in the morning and get outa here."

Zephia takes time to skirt the edges of the village. Because she manages to be so nonchalant about her walking around, she is both quite visible and at the same time unobtrusive. On occasion a Black Earth villager will stop to watch her, but most simply go about their business.

After a bit of investigating, she returns with a smirk on her face.

OOC: SEIGE engine time. Zephia needs to make two Intelligence Checks with a +1 due to the simple challenge of her scouting. Because Intelligence is a prime of hers, she needs to roll a 13 or higher on both (12 base + 1 for challenge score). Due to her level and Intelligence bonus, Zephia gets a +4 to her roll. So roll 1d20+4 twice, and if you make it, you can check the following:

1st Check
[sblock]
You notice that the villagers are slowly emptying the large central building where the village leadership resides. They are trying to it slowly enough so not to attract attention, but you can't help but notice the large amounts of people carrying ceramic pots out of the building over a period of a couple hours. They are bringing those pots to other huts nearby.

2nd Check
[sblock]
You find a vacant boat landing to the south-eastern part of the village. It wouldn't seem strange, except that most of the boat traffic appears to be conducted on the western side of the village, and this one is comprised of muddy, flat beach with stakes and ropes in place to act as tethers. The odd thing is an attempt was made to conceal it with reeds. After a quick look, you attempt to make the area look untampered.

Nonchalantly snooping around (1d20+4=8, 1d20+4=16)

Zephia sits with her back against the hut's wall, stretching her legs out, "So, here's a question. Why would someone in the village have a boat hidden on the east side? And who?"

Angelina sits up suddenly. "Thank you Zeph! Now things are getting interesting. Either they don't want us to know someone comes here and uses it, or someone IS here who uses it or," she pauses just a moment, "They use it to get to the temple and don't want us to know it. I really got the feeling they had their secrets here and it seems obvious that they use the temple for something. Like collecting priceless artifacts perhaps? They just seemed too poor, you get my drift? Angelina pauses again. "Do you think we can we all fit in the boat?"

[section] Briony looked at Zephia. "Ooorrrrr...son of a biscuit eater...the village leader here has been emptying the temple with Tsoylani backing, and our friendly little Tsoylani delegates back in the city knew about it and sent us here to get rid of us rather than retrieve the artifact." Briony's eyes took on an edge. "You see any evidence of martial ability or maybe a stockpile of weapons in the village, Zeph? I smell an ambush. Better double-check our supplies before we leave."[/section]
