Hi everyone!
I just had what was probably the awesomest D&D experience of my life! I'm playing in the Age of Worms AP (converted to 5e) and we were up against a primordial titan guy. My 16th level paladin used misty step to teleport up onto his shoulders (using the "Climbing onto a Bigger Creature" optional rule in the DMG) so I could get advantage on my attacks.
I then proceeded to roll not one but two natural 20s! I had both my 4th level spell slots free, so I used them both to smite with my moonblade. The two attacks combined did 156 damage (14d8+8 for each one).
That was enough to kill the titan, and the DM narrated the result as me decapitating it.
Well, as if that wasn't cool enough, he decided that that was a good time for my moonblade to get an upgrade ... [A little explanation is needed here: This PC is a replacement for a previous one, and I managed to convince the DM to let her have a moonblade by agreeing that it would only have a few runes to start with but more would unlock over time.]
Guess what he rolled? "00". I kid you not.
VORPAL SWORD FOR THE WIN!!!
To top it all off, the titan had some girallons aiding him. One came to attack me. I attacked it back and ... got another natural 20! OFF WITH ITS HEAD!
Holy crap that was epic!
I just had to share.
Cheers,
Jonathan
p.s. If you want to know more about my PC, she's a half-elf paladin with the Oath of the Ancients. She's actually a paladin 15 / fighter 1 ~ I wanted to be able to get both Dueling and Defense. Her AC is 24 (Defense style, mithril plate +1, shield +1, cloak of protection). I'm still debating whether to go to fighter 3 and take Champion for the improved crit range or to stick with paladin to get the last ASI/feat slot and the aura range improvement.
